London,
Im trying to see if i can get this thing started so im doing a tune up. I live in canada so it gets kinda cold up here :p so what oil should i be getting just the normal 5w-30? or what..and is there a specail compnay talons like for spark plugs?
thanks
Brad :)

You're gonna get a ton of different answers on the oil question but most use synthetic 10W-30 from what I can tell. As far as spark plugs a little searching would have yeilded your answer: NGK BPR7ES

judging by the profile and the question, I would venture to say that your talon is stock.

mobile 1 and royal purple synthetic oil are the two best IMO. in colder weather I use 5w-30 and I'd recommend BPR6ES for a stock/closetostock car.

then I use 10w-30 in warm weather

ahhh nice ya i tryed searching but i donno i was getting crappy stuff that didnt relate to anything
thanks again guys how bout the oil?

In regards to oil ... synthectic oil imo is always the best i use royal purple and love for my car i dont mind paying the extra money as long as the life of my engine is going to last and make sure you use a mitsubishi oil filter from factory those are the best for our motors

I use BPR6ES's and havent had any problems with spark at all. Engine oil is a whole nother animal so I wont post my opinion. If you search the oil thing, you'll find that everyone pretty much has their own opinion on it.

If the engine is very old, and has always had dino oil, i might not switch to synthetic, as you can get problems there. Aside from all that.

When my car was stock I ran 5w-30 in the winter, and 10w-30 in the summer. As you get more mods, i'd go to 10w-30 in the winter, and 20w-50 in the summer, depending on how far you go.

Until you are over 17lbs of boost on a 16g, I don't see any reason to go colder than an NGK BPR6ES- you just increase your likelyhood of fouling out.

I run Castrol GTX 10-30, and I recently tried out the Iridium spark plugs. Bit more expensive, but a nice noticeable difference in power.

Whatever plugs you get just make sure they aren't platinum plugs. They will melt and then your engine won't be very happy.

The oil is something of a debate. I've seen everyone arguing over this and the majority of the information that I've seen that is of any use is on this site and on: http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/ It seems that people generally go with purple, and a few here and there with other oils. It seems like a moot point. As for the plugs, almost every wiseman has said go with the 6's until you are dealing with a heavily modified vehicle, then you may want to go with 7's. The reason they say stay away from 7's until you have a heavily modified vehicle is because they are a colder plug. This is to help prevent knock I believe. Due to the fact that they are a colder plug, they will become fouled easily. I can't tell you how many times I see some one on here who complains about idle/misfire issues and they just installed 7's or some platinum performance plug. The answer is almost always pull your plugs and install 6's. These engines really are mean't/designed to use these plugs.

ngk plugs and mobile 1 synthetic, or any thing synthetic at least.
ngk all the way

Like everyone and their brothers say,Spark Plugs- NGK BPR7ES
Motor Oil_ Castrol GTX 10W- 30
I have always used this oil in all of my dsm s. it hold it s viscosity very well when you get up around needing an oil change. It has worked good for my 270 HP Eclipse and my friends 700 HP Talon. it doesnt break down when the temp in gets hot.(trust me all dsm s run hot if you dont believe me drive one and open the hood you could cook a burger on the valve cover). Enjoy.

Considering he's asking about what oil and spark plugs to use, I'd say he's either stock, or not far from it. I would agree with what blcknspo0ln said though about using BPR6ES plugs, but I don't know about oil. I just run normal oil b/c I'm afraid of what synthetic may do since my car has 131k miles.

I have never done it but NEVER use bosch injectors. Stick to a NGK sparkplugs, I havent read anyone say that if the car is stock gap the plugs to .33 and if your running higher boost gap to about .28-.25

Oil is gonna be a trial and error you just have to figure out what your car likes then stick to it.

ahhhc rap I just went out amd bought BPR6EGP NGK G-power but its platinum tiped so i gotta take these back and get the copper flat ones right?

Yeah, it would be your best bet. Plus, you'll save some money. NGKs only run about 1.79-1.99 here.
