what size is this turbo?

Yes it is, that is the same one I have, the compressor wheel is a lot bigger than the small 16G, of course, and mine is ported, so yeah, they are nice, and you can only run about 15-16 psi on a stock fuel system, so get more parts, and boost it out!!!! They are good for about 350-400 whp, yeah, thats a good number too!!! Well, for newbie's.....

It is possible but not probable. You will need every supporting mod, alot of patience, and the proper tuning device such as DSM link or some sort of standalone. There are some people who have done this with AFC but again they have every supporting mod. We were able to this on our car but this was with a 2.3 stroker on the EVO III. So it will be harder on the big 16g.

Your goal is possible but be prepared to put alot of time and effort into it. :thumb:

325-350WHP on a great tune is more likely with a Big16G while the EVO III can hit very close to or slightly above 400WHP. Either one will need a lean A/F, plenty of timing, strong compression and cams to get there. Quoted estimates for the Big16G are closer to 400 at the crank.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Stop posting faster than I do! (j/k)

turbochargers.com had done a test with the evo III, and they got about 397 whp on a SCION, so what does that tell you? DSM's, on your tech forum states that you can at least get d@mn near 400whp on just the stock engine (of course with the right bolt on mods and the right tuning), so who is contradicting who? I have a lot of new parts to put on, so I am just waiting to get my car dyno'd and get it back on the track (winter), so well see......

just by looking at the numbers how do you tell what size your turbo is.

Usually on the compressor wheel side (usually gray), they stamp the numbers on it. Or on some rare ocassions, usually aftermarkets, they are on the turbine wheel side (some look grungy and old, or multicolored if not polished or painted), that is where you can tell, if you are buying from some guy that says it is a 18G, or a hybrid turbo, take a look at the turbo itself, write down the numbers, and search for it, the numbers dont lie about that......... :talon:
