Alright so i have read numerous threads on the evo316g vs. FPBig T28 and have come to the conclusion that they are somewhat the same turbo in different housings.

I have a few questions:

Is there any reason to run a front mount w/ 2.5in piping with either turbo (e316g or FPBT28), or will i just lose spool time? Money is not an issue... 300 - 400 HP Goal
If front mount is productive, what size?
3 Options (Choose one) Stay stock, Supra Sidemount, or Front Mount?

If i were to race someone with the same exact mods, same exact gsx 5 speed, same driving skill, same conditions, same gas, only different turbo's (e316g vs. FPBT28), who would win?

What size exhaust? 2.5 or 3inch? 300-400hp goals

Thanks in advance

3in exhaust
Go frount mount

Im not sure which one would win.

There are many different fmic kits, from 400-1100$ How much are you trying to spend? Money is always an issure.

-EVOIII 16g is nowhere near the same as a Big28, totally different turbo, different manufacturers.
-Yes, a FMIC will cost you ~400 rpm spool over a SMIC.
-Run a Big28 maxxed out, then slap on an EVOIII 16g and you'll pick up +60 h.p., without ANY spoolup disadvantage.
-You want a 3" exhaust, absolutely.

I disagree about the 3inch exhaust. I ran an EvoIII 16g with an EvoIII O2 housing and 2.5 inch VRS downpipe and catback, still dyno'd 347/357 on 93 pump and 374/389 on race gas on a Dynapack. Setup was also good for 117mph traps. I'd say that the limiting factor on that setup is the turbo, not the exhaust. My ¢2. Also, most people will agree that between a properly setup E316g car and a properly set up T-28 car, the 16g car has the edge, more power for a negligible difference in spool.

Alright so i have come to this conclusion:

- 3 inch exhaust
- Front mount
- E316G Turbo

Now, I am wondering, What size front mount should I go with? 300 - 400 HP Goals
BTW: I love my fogs, so what kit can i get that will not force me to remove them? I was looking at kits on ebay, any suggestions?

"Loss of spool" is the byproduct of pressure drop. Typically, the higher the pressure drop, the more efficient the intercooler (usually a bar-&-plate core). The quicker the spool, means less pressure drop, and more inefficient the core is (usually a tube-&-fin core). Invest in a good core (garrett, spearco, etc). Even though you have a few psi of pressure drop, the timing pull that is regained will offset the drop.

Many of the ebay cores are pretty inefficient (even those that advertise bar-&-plate cores), while there are a few good ones.

I've heard this more than once and I have to correct it. There is very little pressure drop in an I.C. in the rpm band where a turbo is first spooling, right around 3500 rpms. Spearco's old 97-98 catalog clearly illustrates this in their SVO 2.3L Mustang I.C. pressure drop testing. The lag is caused by the massive volume increase.

I.C. advice. Get a tall I.C. core, at least 9-10" minimum, 3" thk or thicker , and at most 23" long if you want to keep your fog lights. This'll keep pressure loss to a minimum as you'll have a good aspect ratio in the core. Internal construction won't be as critical if your core size is tall enough and the thickness is generous. Bar and plate and extruded tube are similar in efficiency. I run a cast extruded core internal tube that looks like a PC heat sink with cast aluminum fins. Streamlined end tank helps distribute air to all internal channels minimizing hot spots. Stay away from square box end tanks, cast end tanks are better if you can find them.

IIRC the only company that makes cast endtanks for DSMs is DVDT Fabrications. It's a great unit, I run it and love it, but you can't keep your stock fogs. Also, it's expensive. If you're looking at eBay kits, you're probably not going to want to run it.

Ok so i have read quite a few threads since i last talked to everyone on here and have come up with 2 options. I have decided that I want either the SSAC (SSAutochrome/xsPower) or Punishment Racing FMIC. I realize both are on the cheap side, but from the reviews i have read, they are quality. I was wondering which one you guys would chose?

Springtime Mods:
3 Inch Turbo-back exhaust
Evo 3 16g Turbo
SSAC or Punishment Racing FMIC

I am interested in the V R speed factory one its similar to the ssac one. I like the routing of it an i have seen them holding 500hp without knock on pump gas so not bad for the money but ets makes nice stuff if you have the cash for stainless.

I have a ssac and really like it. you will need to do some fab work to get it to fit though. For only 225 I couldn't go wrong!

I'd go with the Punishment racing kit. Core size is huge and I don't doubt the 650 h.p. rating. Biggest FMIC you'll ever need with a 16g. My opinion, but the SSAC looks like an APEXi knockoff and it is a much smaller core than the Punishment racing FMIC, I wouldn't buy it.
