im looking to get an Evo3 16G, fuel pump, 660cc injectors, FPR, FMIC w/ hard piping(blow though), and eventualy some basic internal mods.

i wanted to know what i should use for tuning... i know most will recomend DSMlink, but i dont plan on spending close to 1k for the Eprom, laptop and program.. so i wanted to know it the Apexi AFC Neo, or Apexi S-AFC2 would be a good enough tuning device for that setup.

The safc2 is what I use with 680' and a 50 trim. I do want dsmlink but for the price you can get an safc2 for used especially now that the neo's are out makes it well worth it in my book.

Since you plan on going blow-though (MAFT) I should tell you that MAF-T will allow you to tune those injectors. MAF-T is ideal for tuning 550-650 injectors, but anything above that (and I even had problems with 650) is difficult. Since it lies to the ECU by saying less airflow is coming in, it places you on a different timing map where you have less airflow and more timing. Basically I've seen disturbingly high timing curves during my WOT logs. YMMV, but I preferred something that compensated AT the ECU instead of lying to it. I've never messed with an S-AFC, but a few locals have sworn by them for the longest time running low 11s with an 18g.

An safc will work for you. I do agree with blackgsx2g that it is better to not lie to your car. I'm a firm believer of the MAFT and dsmchip combo if you don't want to go dsmlink. It may be a little expensive but is still worth looking into.
