i'm looking on strictly imported motors .com and i don't understand what i should get.... first whats the difference between a long block and short block and 6 bolt and 7 bolt????? 2nd should i just buy the racing engine they have there or should i just buy one of the blocks? my car i s Plymouth laser rs 1992 nt fwd. i am trying to ether build a motor or buy the motor built.

Short block is just the lower part of the engine. Block, crank, rods and pistons. The long block is a short block with the head on in. The 6-7 bolt is the number of crank bolts for the flywheel. 6 bolt being early built 1g cars and 7 bolt late build 1g and all2g cars. Also a turbo and non turbo engine are not the same. Totally different set ups. Different trans and the way they bolt in.

so i would have to get everything if i changed my car to turbo? transmision, engine, all the sensor (that i know nothing about LOL)... should i just save yo 1000 and buy a turbo plymouth laser 1g or should i save more than that and get an other car if so what kind of car?

Buy a turbo car. Definitely. It can be done, but will cost more. I dont even know what engines were in the 92 dsms (na). Not the 420a right? I used to have a 1.8L 93 eclipse so thats all im familiar with. Anyway, it will cost a ton to go from na to turbo. Not worth it IMHO

edit: IUGRAD beat me. he would know more than i.

Shouldnt his car be the 4g63 na engine? Should be the same block with different pistons for different compression ratios and no oil squirters. Someone correct me if im wrong here. I drive a 2g

i believe your right my friend i have the same engine i think is 4g36 but i'm not familiar with those terms LOL it sais 2.0 doh or something like that.

If you have a n/t 4g63 that is in great shape cosmetically,or you have some sort of emotional attachment then a swap is by no means out of the question. The fact is,it is hard to find good clean 1g dsm's anymore so if you have one, it may be worth it depending on your budget. The block and the head of the 4g63 n/t are interchangeable with the turbo parts, but i think it would honestly be alot cheaper to just get a 4g63 longblock setup and go for it.My old block was a n/t 4g63 with turbo internals, and the head i am running currently i believe is a n/t 4g63 with turbo cams,3g lifters etc..
There are alot of threads on here and other places that could walk you through a n/t 4g63 to turbo swap fairly easily. But the main thing is that if you dont know someone that can do the swap for you,it is going to be pretty spendy to pay a reputable shop to do it.Look on here at the 1g dsm classifieds before you decide to go with a swap though. Its unfortunate but in the economic state we are in,there are people selling dsm's for way less than half of what they are really worth. It all comes down to your wants/needs and budget.

well my car is ok but it needs paint and interior is pealing, and it seams like a lot more trouble to do the swap than to just buy one whit a stock turbo engine. i saw one for 1000$ turbo fwd plymouth laser should i buy it? whats the difference between eclipse talon and plymouth??

*palmface*
this has been discussed over and over.
Plymouth/eagle are the lower model of the eclipse (AWD platform)
all of the cars utilize the same body structure but cosmetics vary depending on model.
Same 4g63t, Drivetrain, exhaust system. ect.
Go find yourself a new car that CAME with a turbo from the factory. Your knowhow about "turboing" this car seems very slim, I suggest you start with a car that came from the factory that way

If i was you, save your money and buy your self a 6 bolt built motor. those engine i believe is made out of cast iron and you would not really get crank walk like that. those motors are proven to take power and boost and they wont let you down for your money.

Any vehicle with a crank is suseptible to crankwalk, not just the DSM 7 bolt. Ive seen a few 6 bolts walk, along with an evo3 7 bolt
