I just purchased and manual transmission, quaife dif, B&M short shifter, spec stage 5 clutch, clutch master fly wheel used with less than 200 miles on for $500 plus my auto tranny. I'm concerned about the tranny. I was pricing around they want about $800 to refresh the tranny. The tranny I have was used on a car that was pushing 420hp (so he says) at the wheels. The kid I got it from said he has been through 4 trannys already. The quaife was well worth it and the clutch is like new with no burn marks, fly wheel is fine. Now for piece of mind should I refresh this tranny and rebuild it or go to a junk yard and get a tranny for around $500 that didn't have the HP abuse like the one I have?

What do you plan on refreshing? If it works, it works. Drive it till it breaks. If you don't know if it currently works, than that's a different question.

If you want, you can always buy that $500 tranny to have as a spare IF this one breaks.

The tranny was split, I guess that is the easiest way for them to remove it from the car. Anyhow, I was looking at all the gears inside. I know nothing about tranny's, buit noth of the gears show any signs of wear. There are a couple bearings that would be easy to replace at this moment which might not be a bad idea. I was just wondering is there anything really that I should worry about? The guy at the tranny shop said I would just tear the tranny apart driving it. This car is just a car I have for fun. I plan on having over 350hp and running 18psi, I will not be racing the car at all but possibly smoking lots of tires. So what will I have to worry about with my tranny?
