What part goes after my turbo?

I made a similar thread to this before but I drew the pictures last time......but now have actual pictures.... question is what goes between my downpipe and my turbo. I have a early 95' 420a. thanks.

ok my turbo is not internaly waste-gated; just thought id throw that in there because im getting three different answers from everyone
1.O2 housing
2.Wastegate
3.Flange

Also someone i work with told me you can run without a waste gate if you have a BOV.
Vice versa.

is this the first installation of the turbo?

what kind of wastegate do you have? since your is not internally gated.
what brand of turbo is it, what brand of downpipe.

its not a mitsu setup, with the 3 bolt downpipe, where did you get the pipe?

and a bov should have nothing to do with having a internal gate or not.

No Its a Nt soon to be turbo I guess.....
The kit is from The1Bill/Motofool and I got ripped off Ect....
The down pipe is custom made.
The turbo is a garret t3/t4.
I do not have a wastegate as of yet becuase im just confused because i keep getting different responses form everyone telling me i dont need any and some telling me that i do.

You must have a wastegate, Be it internal or external. looks like your turbo has the hole for internal wastegate. Im not a turbo technition, but you need one.

several of the dsm shops online sell 02 housings for the t3 t4 application.
rnrracing.com has a few kits,
aswell as a few others, you jsut have to look.

is there a wastegate flapper in the turbo? look in the small hole. if not, you need external.
do you have an Exhaust manifold to support that turbo?

if not you can order then prefabbed for a wastegate setup.

The downpipe i have already has an O2 sensor.
I cant locate anything that looks like a flap so im guessing its externally waste gated.
I have a manifold but the only thing that can bolt up to it is the turbo.

YOU must have an 02 housing.

the downpipe does NOT bolt directly to the turbo.

unless your downpipe is an 02 eliminator setup, but it doesnt look that way, 3 bolts, that bolts to the bottom of a o2 housing. unless your downpipe comes up, vertical then horizontal to the left to touch the turbo, which it doesnt look like it.

of course, ive never did a garrett setup, mabye another member who has can shed some light.

let me look and see if i can get some info.

ok seeing how your setup is not stock. some of these responces are wronge.

that turbo looks like it needs a wastgate housing to bolt to the 5 bolt exhaust side.

sense there is a hole for an internal wastegate you need one. or, you need a downpipe with a block off plate to cover that hole. (this would be your best bet.)

An o2 housing would not have a wastegate in it. so that is not the peice you need. also the DSM o2 housing have a 2 bolt outlet not 3.

you need a watsgate and a BOV. Both are needed in a turbo setup. wastegate controls the amount of boost, and a BOV releases the pressure durring shifts to prevent compressure surge.

if your could list what turbo, and downpipe those are that would help us help you

also post a picture of the complete downpipe, and the compressor houseing

I mentioned the Turbo and Downpipe a few post up and I already have every other component i need for my kit except for what goes in this gapand yes i know i have to rotate my compressor housing .but here is a few more pics that may help clear some things up.

take a picture of the compressor side, i can tell you wheather that turbo was made for external or internal wastegate. if there are 2 threaded wholes on the compressor then you need something similar to what is pictured. if there are no holes then you need a block off plate, and an external wastegate.

It can be internally or externally wastegated. Guess that answers my question.
Now just gotta find one.

from the looks of that last picture you have to go External.

Sense there is no place to attach the wastegate aculator to on teh compressor housing you need to find a block off plate for the internal hole.

then you can run a 3" downpipe off of that.

You will have to run this setup with an External wastegate. The Star kit uses an identicle but cast manifold that places the wastegate flange slightly to the left side (when looking at the manifold on the car). The 5 boult outlet flange from Garrett (or Turbonetics) blocks off the smaller hole, and it is irrelevant at this point in the game. What I would suggest to do (without obviously seeing the setup, I can't say that it'll work) is get a 5 bolt garrett style flange to match the outlet of the turbo, cut off the 3 bolt flange on your "downpipe" and have it welded on accordingly so that they'll mate directly together. Then you'll need to put some time of wastegate (38mm series gates fit best on that size manifold). Any other questions just ask, maybe see if that downpipe will fit in there, just not bolt to the turbo (swapping a flange should be all there is to that part)
