what kind of turbo

New here and putting together my first DSM in 12 years, so for let's just pretend I know nothing. I'm looking for a big evo 3 16g turbo and found this one, but can't tell if its a real one or not. Any help would be appreciated.

That looks to be a genuine mhi turbo.

If it does check out I'm going to go pick it up Monday, what if any is considered normal shaft play? Its supposedly only installed and never used.

Tiny bit of in/out play, no up and down play or next to none. Look inside the oil ports for build up, shouldn't have any if it is new. They go for $600 or less new so don't take any chances. Guy might have blown his rebuilt motor and there might be metal in the turbo. You can save it if you take it apart and clean it, replace bearings, thrust plate, seals etc. Only worth it for a steal imo.

Wrong, it should have no in an out play, some up an down play, and they go for around 900 new.

I guess fp stoped selling Evo 3 16g but they have one that around the same price and its a little more powerful.

If it hasent to been used that's a good price. They were cheaper a couple of years ago, around 600, but when the sunami or what ever hit japan f'ed shit up there, and then there prices went up.

Well sense I'm on a roll of good answer here, the turbo was installed on a 2nd gen. I'm putting it on 1st. Any major concerns there? I read they use a 2nd gen adapter kit, which I'm assuming I can take off.

It is a direct bolt on for the 1g. And yes you can just un bolt the 2g kit and use all your stock oil/water lines from your 14b. Do you have an aftermarket innercooler?
