i was going to buy the car but, I am wondering what kind of smoke is this?? Is it a blown head gasket or turbo??? How much would it take to fix a HG and a replace a blown turbo??

how long was the car running before you took that pic? it looks like the normal smoke stuff that comes out the exhuast when you start a car up and its really cold outside. i can't really tell from the pic, but is it a blueish color?

but seriously how much is the car going for... and maybe for that reason you can talk down the price and have the engine rebuilt.....

it is a 98 gsx with 108000k. it is going for 5 grand...is that okay or too much..

dude thats preaty good its 5spd? you should talk him down to like 4000 cash or something... that would be good cause your going to need some maintnance money

Yeah try to get him to 4500 at least. Just get him in the 4 thousand area, who cares if its smoking, its a damn nice car, and its cheep. You're going to dump money into the damn hell hole ne ways, so you might as well buy it. :p

doesnt really look blue so maybe its just running rich. but maybe the photo doesnt do the smoke color justice

rich? god damn he must be dumping 4 gallons of fuel. Thats blueish, maybe white. Coolant or Oil. Could be turbo, headgasket, stem seals.

that doesnt make sense. you say its not blue, nor white enough for coolant, but if the turbo was bad, it would blow blue smoke (oil) OR/AND coolant (white).

is that at idle that pic? if so, its probly a headgasket or real bad stem seals.

ive only ever seen one car with a blown turbo smoke, and the colour was sort of that colour a lil darker though, could be anything really ranging from normal, to rich, to blown turbo etc...
is the car a daily driver, if not that could be it... when i let my car sit for a over a couple days it will smoke alot of condensation for the first minute or two or until I start driving it.

Ive blown turbo's, headgaskets, stem seals etc.

Its NOT running rich.... The car is idling, and blowing that much smoke, gas is dark. Hed be dumping like gallons of fuel to smoke like that at idle.

Headgasket is the most likely cause, do a compression check. Turbo isnt as likely as the car is just idling. Stem seals are another possibility, but unlikely to smoke that much at idle usually.

Everyone can sit here and guess what color it is LOL, do the necessary things to find out what it is.

i had some white smoke coming out the windows one time... car was full of smoke i think it was a blown pipe or something......anyways cops didnt believe me.... haha

you all have to be joking, okay son if its blue smoke, then the engine is burning some oil but if its a thick white smoke that keeps pouring out of the car even after you are moving n stuff, for a good amount of time then its a blown head-gasket if its neither then its just some exhaust. nothin to be too worryed about but if somethin goes wrong come to bellevue and hit me in the nutsack, because im sure of all this.

The car is 250 something mile away from me...hahahaa..i wish i had the tools to get a compression check but i don't..i guess i'll just get my freind and cousin who are mechanic to go with me to check the car out... my cousin has the tools for a compression check. right now i am talking to the guy to lower it..

If it has bad compression in any cylinder then what would that mean and what would it also mean if it doesn't have bad compression. but constanly blow out smok like this??

Does the engine compartment look good or messy??

Looks like a custom upper I/C pipe w/ 1G BOV,
cone type filter w/ adapter,aftermarket wires,prob Accell,
aftermarket muffler.
Grease allover the wires and around the upper shock towers.
Someones had their hands on it. OMG
EZ clean-up for any lil detail shop right before it goes on the lot. :D
Havn smoke issues myself..white smoke when revvin the eng?
Same setup

haha i blew my turbo. you know your turbo's goin bad when you rev it up and let it go. wait about 2-3 sec and see if smoke somes out then. if that's the turbo goin out it'll go out prolly in the next 500 miles. it only smokes at idle that bad JUST before it goes. at 108k miles you can expect a lotta work to do if you buy it. it's an eclipse, and a gsx at that. assume it's been driven hard, and expect things to start breaking soon. $3500 tops. any more than that and you're gettin ripped. a good price would be 3k and a great deal is anything under that. that's my 2 cents

:D
