What kind of laptop for dsmlink?

What is a cheap laptop i can buy for dsmlink?

windows 98 or newer with serial port. no computers now a days have serial ports, just usb, and firewire. if that tells you anything. of course you can buy serial to usb connectors from any radio shack.

Check out the IBM Thinkpad 380 XD P233 on ebay (seller is kjo3). It's got all the requirements for dsmlink plus a little bit extra, and windows 98 is already installed for you! They usually go for around $130. It's the laptop that I will be using

Not sure about that one . . . the client software with DSMLink is purely JAVA. So if a MAC has problems with JAVA and serial ports, then I guess no . . . you couldn't use a MAC.

There is actually one guy using a G4 titanium laptop and running DSMLink software succesfully. If you are a member of the forum ill link you up. If you not your kind of out of luck.

I thought pretty much all the new MACs use JAVA, why wouldn't there be a problem

*edit* You would also need an adaptor that converts serial port to firewire (MAC USB basically). Then I think you would be good to go.
