Hey guys I got my eprom ecu chipped for fic 650s. I got everything the other day and installed the injectors and ecu today, however i am waiting to install the clutch wire. the dsmlink software is saying i/o error, port not found when i go to log, or ecu->fuel. what do i need to do in order to get the computer to communicate with the eprom? thanks in advance guys. Im at UTI till 8pm then want to get this car tuned and off to the streets of woodfield. so cmon you computer techs.

You should have access to the DSMlink forums where this question can be answered with satisfaction. You do have a DSMlink chip right? And cable? Did you use the correct "COM" port? Was the car's ignition on when you tried to establish connection?

I am waiting for 1320motorsports to send me my dsmlink forum username and password. yes, i have tried to make communication with the ecu with the engine running. I have also tried all 4 com ports. and yes, the chip inside my ecu says dsmlink right on the chip. hopefully this answered the dark spots, someone let me know asap. i am out of class and waiting to go out and run some people down tonight. thanks.

Make sure there isn't any other programs using your ports. Example, Hot-sync for a pda.

no sir, i am not using an adapter for the USB i/o. Is there any other way to see what programs may be using that port? i really appreicate the help since i cant get the forum password atm. thanks bros.

well, seems as if the reason for the hold up is the new person setting up the accounts at ecm tuning. hopefully they resolve this QUICKLY because i still do not know how to get my laptop to communicate with my onboard computer. :notgood: :barf:

the computer is a compaq presario 1200 laptop. should the setting for the COM1 in device manager be changed from xoff/xon to 'hardware'? just wondering what i should do. dsmlink's online user guide says unfortunantly any hardware connection problem is up to the user to fix. thanks for the help

What set up are you using. USB, or DB9? Change the COM1 setting. That is just a protocol. Changing it to hardware will only make the ECU make the rules. If you are using USB, which adapter are you using?

casey, i am using the standard cable and adapter provided to me from dsmlink. the cable provided plugs directly into the back of my laptop. it is the blue trapezoid shaped plug with four pins across the top and five on the bottom. you should pm me your AIM screen name so we can talk and get this sorted out.

and to clarify, it is a serial DB9 port, NOT a USB port.

Make sure that 1: Your serial port is Enabled in your Bios. 2:Make sure that your COM setting is set to either 1 or 3; DSMLink has an option to link to either 1 or 3. So make sure your Bios option matches your Link option. Hope this helps. I would go nuts to have it and not be able to use it.:D

How do i configure the BIOS? I am not the best with computers in that sense, so please be patient. DSMLink has the option for COM1-4. Let me know.

As your computer first starts up there will be an option to enter "Setup" or Bios. You will have to hit either F1 or DEL ect. There are a few different keys that will enter setup depending on the chipset on your motherboard. Once in the setup, look for your serial port and see what options you have as far as changing it.:D

well i played with the bios setup and looked around. i tried to change the settings but my options were limited. the error i get is 'failed: 'java.io.ioexecution' port is in use by unknown windows application.' come on guys, whats the deal? i upgraded my ram memory today to 156mb because it only had 28. nothing. could i have a bad serial cable? i hate to buy something and not correct the problem. i am getting extremely fed up because i can not check the forums. i am still waiting for tom from 1320 to set up the damed account. anyone who feels they can help let me have it. you can also catch me on aim, 'rayjneal.' any help at all right now would be appreciated.

my dsmlink would not connect when i first got it. It was ''timed out''. I changed my adapter to a keyspan adapter and i think i have it set on com4 and havent had any problems since. Im not sure if its the same problems for 2gs with the adapters though...

Do you have the most recent Java application?
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
You can download the latest version from here. The file is very big.
If this does not fix the problem, look inside your Device Manager and find what port options you have for the serial. You should be able to change it. Let me know.

yea mega, i updated my java about two days ago. I had com1 only on my laptop. however, once i changed out the memory with the 156mb, all of a sudden i had com1 com3 and com5. i am at a loss guys, i have no clue what to do. and to whoever said something about the adapter, like i said, i am using no such thing.

yea i think my laptop is ####ed (excuse my french). after installing the 156mb memory stick i went from having just com1 in the device manager to having com1, com3, and com5. later that night i looked again, and only had com1. now today, i wake up, turn on the laptop, and now i have com5 only. wtf is going on. this computer is jacked. should i try downloading the driver for my model for the com port?

Well guys i took it upon myself to find the problem and just came back to report what it was. i looked up the electrical circuit on ALLDATA and quickly realized the headlamps, ignition buzzer (if i recall) and light around the ignition. The fuse was blown and upon replacing it the problem was solved.
