i just bought a 91 talon tsi 2 days ago that i thought was in good condition....today i found oil leaking from under the car right next to the front right tire.......so i take her to the eagle dealership to drop off for service and on the way my car starts making all these whiny noises (transmission?). all of a sudden i am having trouble getting her into first, and going into second it grinds every time and pops out, 3rd and 4th are ok. what is wrong with my car? what is the worst case scenario? what is the costs of the worst case scenario?

all the car has is a 16g set to 14 psi and a full 3 inch turboback exhaust. there is a fidenza aluminum flywheel and act 2600 clutch with less than 6000 miles on them.

That sucks!

Almost the same thing has happen to me on a diff car! Mine leaked out gear oil and when I was driving it to a friends so we can work on it the tranny locked up in gear! So your tranny is probably fu*ked!

it definitely smells.........do you think my tranny is done or is it something that can be fixed?

Once the leak is found and bandaged, drain any remaining stinky lube (gear oil), then refill with a good synthetic like BG Synchroshift from your favorite DSM performance shop. If it seems to shift ok, count your blessings and start driving like grandma. Now would be a good time to get those nice little metal bushings for your shifter mount. After you've done this, save next months paycheck for a good performance gearbox. There are quite a few shops with banners on this very site that offer trannies with double synchros, heavier forks, etc.

No, a new OE transmission does not count as a good gearbox. :laser:
