so one of the 4 problems i ran into so far in the swap is this plug. the automatic plug for this is different. it uses 4 wires, while the manual ( in the picture) only uses 2 and there completely different. my question is in the title, and does anyone know how i would re-wire it?

That's the sensor for the Reverse (light).

I assume that the other two wires form the automatic connector is for the Starter,
which disable the starter when the tranny is on gear.

On the 2g's we only make a jump to enable the starter.

I am not positive, but I think that 1g's might be the same.

Hopefully some one with more experience with 1g's can jump in and give you a better concrete answer.

Doesn't sound like you're looking at the right connector on the auto harness. The back-up lights wiring diagram shows that an automatic uses a 12-pin connector (for models up to 1992, a rectangular shape, 2 rows of wire, 6 pins per row; for 1993+, a hexagonal shape, 3 rows of wires, 4 pins per row) for the reverse lights (as well as other things). The 4-wire connector is for the "automatic transmission solenoid valve".

Assuming your harness is the original 1994 non-turbo harness (a difference in pin locations in 1993+ between turbo and non-turbo), the red wire with blue stripe at pin 6 will go to pin 2 on the reverse light switch. The red wire at pin 7 goes to pin 1 (foremost in the picture) on the reverse light switch.

If i under stood that right yeah your correct on the 93 plus 12 wire connector, it does have it, the auto trans also has more then 1 connector the manual has one. i have 2 cars one was auto and one manual both have the pictured plug in that location and there different. i was told i connect the 2 big black wires on the 12 wire big plug you were taking about to activate the starter circuit. is this correct?

and i can live without reverse lights for now, i just want to get the starter circuit activated so i can get it started finally!

Connecting the black (my diagram shows they are black w/ yellow stripe) should do it. It will be pins 5 and 8 for the 93+ non-turbo harness or pins 8 and 7 for the 93+ turbo harness.

I remember they are black w/yellow stripe, thanks! il give it a shot tomorrow! :hellyeah:

Thgere are 3 wires total that have the black and yellow insulation, one is smaller and more in the middle of the plug, then to each side are 2 bigger wires also black with a yellow stripe. what do you think, connect the 2 big ones?
if you have a link to where i can see how the plug ports are numbered that would be great!
Thanks for all the help :thumb:

hooked the 2 wires today and another problem.
with the 2 wires connected the car gets power through accessory position and when i go to start it sounds like it might be throwing the starter gear out, then it completely cuts all power to everything similar to unplugging the battery. at witch point i had to unplug the bat. terminal and plug it back in to restore power. it doesn't cut power in start position when the wires are disconnected. But its still not cranking.
is this because i have the tcu unplugged and out of the car? can i try bridging the neutral safety switch? what can be causing the power cut?

I had the same problem tried starting the car and killed all power. Ended up being a bad battery clamp so I would check those.

Well that's not right. You shouldn't have power to the starter until the ignition switch is in "START" position, regardless of connecting the two wires together. It has nothing to do with the TCU, either. I don't imagine the two are related, but just so we all know exactly what you did, which wires did you end up putting together according to the diagram and what type of harness (turbo or non-turbo) is it?

Something weird going on here. I agree you should check your connections and recheck the wires you connected together. For whatever reason, it sounds like something is wrong closer to the ignition switch than down by the starter.

According to the picture it was 5 and 8. It was a last ditch attempt but i gave it a shot just now, i never thought that symptom would be related to this. But i went out sanded all the battery terminal connectors to a shine, especially on the ground wires reconnected them to the battery, i also sanded the paint off where all the grounds bolt to the chassis of the car and added another thick ground wire from the battery to where the shocks mount up for the hell of it, and now it turns over with the wires connected and no more power cut! And it seems my audio system likes the extra grounding to!
Thanks for all the help everyone!
