I used the wiki and other searches but I just cant seem to lable this thing. Im in the process of tucking wires and vacume lines and I came across this. It has two vacume lines that go into it. One is from the intake manifold and the other is from part of the cruise control? (somebody help me here, idk) the second picture shows what im talking about. What is it? Can I take this out? Or should i just hide it somewhere? Thanks

Hey

first picture is just a vaccum canister. I have removed this, It was some time ago when I did remove it but if I remember correctly it is also part of the evap system that is tucked up in the passenger side fender - front bumper area.

second picture its part of the cruise control this can all be removed and replaced with a non cruise control throttle cable.

Just unbolt the spindle assembly off the firewall and remove all the cables and the vaccum controlled switch and your done.

***edit***
the black box looking piece right above the piece you have circled in red is what has to be removed and there is also a electrical connection you have to unplug too if I remember correctly.

Hmm. I'm a little confused by the answer, so I'll just say that both of those things you posted were part of the cruise control. If you have any open vac lines you must cap them.

Haha this is one of the worst pieces in the 420a...I broke mine a long time ago.

From what I remember that black canister in the top pic was mounted below the intake manifold, not inside the fender.

if you are going to remove any vacuum lines that go to the intake make sure to cover the lines in the intake with nipples...!!

Mmmmmmmmmm............................nipples......................................

Thanks dsmking

Just to be clear I wasnt saying the vaccum canister itself is placed in the wheel well fender area, But that some of the vaccum lines that run from the intake are tied into the Evap system that has two solenoids placed in the wheel well.

Go ahead and remove it all you'll be fine, I have removed everything I could from my '99 GS.

If you have any further questions shoot me a PM.

Why would you rep something that is incorrect (or at least confusing and guessing)? The black plastic box that was shown is part of the cruise control NOT part of the EVAP system. It is located under the intake and not in the wheel well. The LDP set-up is located under the wheel well. It is a well known part (to your experienced and inexperienced 2gnt'ers) because it is that little "get in the way/pain in the ass part" for access to the intake (sorry coltsleeper, no offense meant to you).

IMO, this is the problem with the "rep" system. Inexperienced people giving out rep to incorrect information.

I came back and corrected my misinformation on the post. I was just trying to help out, After I looked at my car once I got home I realized I had made the mistake and mixed up the EVAP system with the cruise control system. For this I apologize for the misinformation.

Ultimately in the end remove all the pieces in question and it will clean up the engine bay.
