I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

As stated above $900 is a really fair price.

Even a $1,000 for the Gst with blown motor is still a good deal. Only time, when its worth more then a thousand dollars, is if its completely rust free Low miles or the car is a classic muscle car.

I sold an Eclipse Rs 420a automatic, to my younger brother for $900 as is.
The body framed along the jack points rotted out, all strut towers where like new but the engine still ran great and tranny was good interior was mint. He drove it from my house to his shop. I paid 1200 for it, and from what I sold it for and extra parts, I recoup from my lost beloved black 2gb.

From the mistakes learned from my first white panda Dsm (over paid) up to this one, there was one other in between. Reading, threads on forums from horror stories.

I finally realize what it's like to be a Dsmer when tragic things happend. :hellyeah:

^^^Seen that car before, the owner is a douche and the car is not nice at all. There are plenty of nice ones out there for that money that would blow that one away. Look at the panda Talon on Pittsburg, that must be the one he is trying to buy, its the same price but much nicer.

As this being my first official post, HELLO FELLOW DSMERS!! I have recently located a 1995 Talon Tsi AWD shell for $1100. Body has 79k:D miles on it, no rust, all stock, just missing a few things like gas tank, front bumper, radiator, etc.

Im hesitant on picking it up due to it not having a title. But, I ran the vin and its clean and know someone who could put a mechanics lean on it and get the title in 30 days with the exspenses paid of course. Original owner is M.I.A.

Any feedback would be great. Just curious to know if its worth it or not and would like others input. Thanks in advance.

1100$ seems steep for having missing parts and no title. I would think around the 600-800$ range if you really want to go threw the trouble.

I was also thinking the same thing to be honest. The no title is what is making it a hard decison. I would be oaying more for a motorless car than I did my running and driving gs-t:|

I would be hesitant on it. Speaking from knowing someone that was in the same situation as you (this being a boat with no title and owner is M.I.A.); it has turned into a mess and he still hasn't received a title for it after years of working trying to get one so he hasn't been able to do anything with it. I personally would stay away from it, but if you are confident you can get a title for it, then more the power to you. It's not always as easy as it seems though. But price wise, like stated above, would agree with $600-$800 if you do go with it. Good luck!

Edit: Just saw the no motor part, yeah no more than $500

Agreed. Looks like I will negotiate with him on the price and basically take everything off of it that I would need to convert my 97 gs-t auto to 5spd AWD. Thats if he even reduces the price any. Thank you kindly for the input.

With a blown motor its MAYBE worth $1,000. But with motor missing (can't rebuild), aswell as other critical parts I would say $500-$600 at the MOST. On top of that no title. Title shouldn't cost much, but acquiring one might be a headache. If you can talk that price down, go for it. But whatever you do, it'll be a very nice car when its running. Oh and welcome :)

Hey guys thinking about getting back into the dsm scene after taking about 9 years off. Found this car for sale the guy wants 1600.00. The description is below, let me know your opinions what to look for when I go look at it this weekend.

WHAT I KNOW OF!! THAT NEEDS FIXING!

-Needs new axle in front passanger When u drive it over 50mph steering wheel shakes like crazy)
-Passanger side window goes up and down but gets stuck or comes off track. might need a new window motor
-Power steering fluid is leaking from top of circle fitting i can send picture if u need to see what im talkin about
-Gas Gauge doesnt work right
-bolts holes in head that hold valve cover on are stripped out so the bolts wont tighten down. but i have not had any issues with oil leaking from valve cover. just a heads up if you wanna get it fix or not
-Cylinder Head needs new Exhaust Valve Seals. I bought another used head that was rebuilt with stock internals with only 5,000 miles on it. I went to get it pressure check to make sure everything is good for sure... bad news the used head has bent valves on the exhaust side in the 1st cylinder only. I mean not too crazy of a money pit to fix.... but I just don't want to dump any more money into it then I already have invested. so u can either replace the valve seals on the exhaust side on the head that is on the motor now or replace the 2 exhaust valves on the used had I bought and use that.
-Could use a better paint job

THIS CAR DOES RUN AND DRIVE!! It just needs a little work

Thats all of the issues i know of as of now. Car is SOLD AS IS!

ASKING PRICE: $1,600 FIRM!!!!!!!!! NO TRADES , CASH ONLY!!!

He says the reason he thinks it needs valve seals is there is a little blue smoke at startup and he took the exhaust manifold off and saw oil in the 2 and 4 port.

Haha thanks, I appeciate it. I will consider it as I can utilize the awd parts and part the remaining of the car out but thats if I can get the guy to come down on the price. The car is absolutley amazing..at most, is $800 fair?

No problem. 800 is an okay price especially if you're going to use the awd parts and part out the rest. But still on the higher side unless people pay top price for whatever you part. Full interior?

Sounds like it will need about the same amount of money put into it to get her driving right and on the road.. I say that much because the turbo is a fleebay special.

Depends on if you want a project or not, you are basically buying the car for the price of the new bottom end. Since the head is jacked up, awd is messed up, crappy turbo, plus all the other leaks and things not stated.

I'd look elsewhere.

I'm thinking about picking up a Talon tsi awd.

Here are some questions, want to ask you pro dsm people.

I've owned 4 dsms in my life, but haven't had one in a few years.

Anyways. the car. it's a 96 Talon TSI ( awd 5 speed ) with a 6 bolt swap. It has a front mount intercooler, full exhaust, eclipse "whale tail" spoiler ( which I prefer honestly) and a cheapo "jdm" chinese turbo. Exeddy cluth, SRP pistons, Eagle rods, T4 manifold, chinese wastegate and some gauges ( boost and such ).

The problems are, the turbo smokes bad and burns oil bad ( obvious garbage chinese turbo pushing 24 psi ) and oil blows out of the dipstick.

Also the car overheats bad and gets a lot of crankcase pressure so I think headgasket but the oil wasn't milky at all, but the coolant was super pressurized.

overall the car is in I'd say good condition, no rust, no bad suspension issues, awd works.

The price: 1200$.

What you think?

ok so I am finally in a position to buy my first dsm for a toy and here I am trying to figure out a price. My friend has a few dsms and is offering me his 1991 gsx with 105k miles pretty clean 2 small spots of rust.

the good
I know the owner
fresh rebuilt engine
ran great before the head gasket blew
16g turbo
5 speed
brand new dsm link
4 bolt rear end
6 bolt engine
full 3 inch exhaust
walbaro 255

comes with
new intercooler
full extra set of exterior panels
extra interior
extra trans
extra tcase
extra 4 bolt rear end
hx40 turbo
extra engine (the old one)
and I am sure more stock pieces he has extras of

the bad
been sitting a year now and 6 months with a unfired engine because he bought an evo and lost interest
needs the knock sensor female connector fixed
t case needs put back in and the exhaust
coolant lines and intercooler lines need reinstalled

what do you all think I should pay we talked about 2750 for everything but the car is 80 miles away and i dont have a way to tow it and would need to fix it on site in a day(does that sound reasonable?)
