What is this car worth / Is this car a good deal?

I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

It will cause you to run lean in-between shifts, and possibly constant stalling. For some people there are no issues but it would be wise to re-circulate it. This is an easy and cheap fix.

Actually it will cause you to run rich between shifts.

Ok just wanted to make sure I figured it wouldnt be to hard of a fix its just a long drive home from where im buying the car didnt want it to break down.

Would the bov being blocked cause compressor surge or would it just be best to have it towed home.

Is the blow off valve blocked off? I think you mean the port on the intake is blocked off? If the blow off valve is being vented to the air and the intake is blocked off you should be fine to drive it home. Many people do this and daily drive their dsm's, not saying that you should.

recirculating your bov into your intake pipe is best in my opinion.

Bov is not even there. Looks like the throttle body is broken or chipped where the biss screw is. Also need to get a timing belt cover.
On the plus side, the timing belt appears like it was replaced recently. The lettering is still in good shape.

Ya I mean the guys is asking 3k for the car and the paint is super faded and he said the bov re circulation tube broke so he took the b.o.v out sounded a little sketchy to me. He said he drives the car daily. Would this be a car worth getting

I'd try to talk him down. Driving without a bov at all isn't a good idea at all

I am very new to this I have always wanted to be apart of the DSM world with that being said I have found a 1991 Tsi talon for $800 obo it has a spun bearing is it worth the money that he is asking for??? Just to say the body is in decnt shape.

def post a couple pics. be aware if a bearing is spun, it may have particulate embedded in the rest of the engine bearings and a full rebuild may be in order. other than that, if the body and interior is good, most of the engine and running gear is in good shape, id say its a good deal.

i just sold a good condition 1995 2g tsi that just needed a timing belt for for $500. no head or valve damage or anything. i couldn't hardly give that thing away. ive seen non-running DSM's be towed away and people pay to get rid of them... unless the rest of the car is mint i would say offer him $400 at best.

i paid less for a good condition 91 AWD TSI that needed a timing belt and valves.... these cars are free or DIRT cheap if they don't run and worth only a little more then worthless if they DO run... sad really.

I bought a 92 laser rs awd good body blown head and no rims or tires for 300$! Show up with 500$ on your hand and tell him he wont get any better deal!

Grab it and fix it up, got mine for dirt cheap with full engine and hundreds of dollars of goodies, because he wanted to get rid of everything i came out ahead on this.

if you still own the dsm then you didnt come out ahead. give it time.

$900 sounds good to me. Ask him if he'll fix it for you for cheap if you bought it.

From outside it really seems, like taken care off. Inside isn't that bad, dunno about the motor.
