I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

I knew the kid some but not too well. I do feel kinda bad because he paid a ton for the car 4 months ago and had to sell it like this not knowing it was such an easy fix, but I guess his loss my gain and i didnt think it would be this easy either! The Rock luckily I have a good friend(98zx23369) that told me about the car before it made it on to CL he was also the one that helped me fix it yesterday. My plans for the car are built with supporting mods to hold a HX-35 to a HX40 or some where around there!

gotcha!! always good to have those connections! ;). plans sound good, be sure to keep us updated with the 'build' with pictures, videos, etc etc.

If you ever decide to sell, I might be interested :idontknow:

i think you could get it for 4k. if its clean id pick it up. never know when your gonna stumble upon a good clean dsm. especially with 123k on it

It's hard to tell without pictures but I payed 4500 for my 2g GSX with 179,000 miles on it. However it was literally completely stock with no body damage/rust except for a door handle that was messed up.

The price of a car is really what it's worth in the eyes of the buyer. If you feel like its a good deal, it probably is. If you feel like its not, then well, I think you know...

I know someone who only lives about 40minutes from me and they are selling a 1996 mitsubishi eclipse, i believe rs, ..for $300..
originally 500 2 months ago.

there is no engine. the lady said her boyfriend was going to swap it for a turbo and sold the engine for money to get a turbo and then they broke up and she was left with a no engine car. the hood and carpet is gone too.

i dont know how much i can get a 420A engine for and i wanted to know if i should pick this up.

i wouldn't... looks like it would be more of a headache then its worth.

If you're mechanically inclined, want to have fun, and realize you will lose money out the ass on it, then go for it. Could be a fun learning experience.

If you are looking for a hobby than that is a good price. A good condition shell I have seen go for about 200.00-700.00 depending on what else was inside the car.

At least look for a GSX shell first though... just to see if there is one available... if there isn't then snatch this up.

Im figuring its $300 which is something where i have no bills that it means its so low i would be ok with loseing that. and i have helped my dad rebuild 7 transmissions and a complete engine rebuild so im looking for ways to gain expierence.

the lady said the transmission has no problems, that they were doing a turbo swap and it has all the wires for it and the only thing it needs is an engine, even the body doesnt look like its rusted all over

Well that's good. I guess it all depends what you want to do with it. Like buy a junkyard motor to throw in it and just have a beater. Or spend a decent bit of money fixing it to where it looks nice and is mechanically 100% there.

But building a motor of it would definately be worth it from the learning aspect.

Does anyone know an average price for a motor, even a junkyard block and i put on everything else new

Depends where you go.

The pick and pull that I frequent will let just a block and rotating assembly go for like $125 if I recall correctly. A bare block is like $50ish from the same place.

Are you specifically looking for an rs shell (non-turbo)? If not then I'd look into a 4g63t car with a broken timing belt. A lot of 1g's can be had for $300 with broken timing belts and I've even seen some 2g's on craigslist.

For $300, it doesnt look like much of a steal: crappy paint, steal wheels, lack of hood, etc... IMHO I'd hold off for an awd (with broken t belt or something similar) as mentioned above. It's easier to rebuild a motor than to try to source a junkyard motor.
