I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Sweet, thanks man, those videos are great! Now I'm kind of a noob, so what would really be the difference if i switched to v3 over the v2? Im not really familiar with an idle air clamp either.... I know my way around 3800s and ls1s though!

v3 is simply a lot more friendly than v2.

the main reason I was going to make the switch however was so I could run the vented Tial bov I put on the car. You can run it with v2 but not recirculating is going to have ill-effects which could be the idle problem, it will also run rich between shifts.

V3 is awesome software, I had it on my old talon.

However you will have to re-tune if you switch.
You can also switch to a GM MAF or better yet, Speed Density.

I think Im going to invest in this. would I just have to splice in a GM MAF? also what would be a good solution for a catch can?

Did he give you the old coolant overflow? The little black cylinder looking thing? It would work great for a catch can. I'm glad to see from the pic on his ad that they put a different coolant overflow tank in it, the black one I think was a problem causer.

Otherwise you'd be best to just make your own unless you want to drop like $60-80 on a nice JMFab one or something.

I'm not 100% on GM Maf's, as much as I've done with DSM's I've never run one before. I'm a big fan of the 2g MAF's or just plain speed density.
If you're going to invest in getting v3, i'd highly suggest just going speed density. For the power that car is making/capable of - it'd be much better.

I have an old LQ4 maf layin around in the garage, Im going to do some research. Im going to see what I can fab up in the garage for a catch can.

And he did say the coolant overflow was giving him problems, so they just replaced it.

I believe you would want a 4bar Map sensor if i remember correctly?
You'd probably want one that will allow you to read boost to 30+psi if you get another turbo.

The FP Green is awesome, but the car is basically at its limit with it.
If I still had the car heres what I'd wait and do:
Get enough money for a bigger turbo, and a new exhaust manifold, and also v3 and to swap to speed density. Your money will be better spent that way, because then instead of retuning and maybe only picking up a few horsepower, that car could probably see 600whp with a bigger turbo, better manifold, and a retune.

I was thinking to go with an FP red with the Fp race manifold. Im definetly getting the V3 upgrade and ill probably just get the map sensor they offer too.

yes its missing the side trim piece, i wouldnt complain to much about it for 1300, the guy says it was running and used daily before he left to Cali and put it in storage so itll pry need a jump

Well I had a precision 6262 on my Evo, and the lag was absolutely horrible. I dont want to have to wait until 4000rpm to get boost.

Well 4000rpm is actually pretty good for bigger turbos if you want big power heh.

That FPGreen before I put the tial wastegate on it, got that new o2 housing on it and messed around with the downpipe, tune was mostly the same, didn't spool until 4300rpm.

My old 20g on my talon didn't come in until 4000rpm.

It's just going to be hard to go beyond 500whp and keep a low spool without a stroker.
I've got some seats and wheels that would go perfect on this car by the way, check my classifieds :p

If your looking for a project it seems like a good idea but if you want it as a daily driver i would find another one

Isn't having one money pit fun enough? Let alone 2. Maybe if it was AWD I would consider it but 2 fwd's??
