what is a turbo thats similar to a 14b?

Hi everybody! i hope that this isn't a repetitive queston and i hope that i can get a answer...but first, i will tell you the situation:

So one night i was driving and suddenly i couldnt make any boost at all...checked my piping, BOV, wastegate, and couldnt figure it out so i thought that my turbo was shot:toobad: so a couple of weeks go by and i purchase a 14b and now the 14b holes dont line up to my manifold BUT the guy that i bought the turbo from says that its a 14b....does anyone have pics on what a 14b looks like when you're looking down on it? and i plan on getting a 16G since they're so cheap now-a-days...
 
14b's will have TD05H in raised letters on the compressor housing, along with an 03 stamped in between the raised letters of the serial number, also on the compressor housing but on the opposite side of the inlet.

okay I'll check it out after work today....but other than that is that the only way to tell the difference? I'll try to upload some pics with my Cell phone today (i dont have a digi cam:notgood:)
 
can anyone post pics of a 14b turbo? Right now i'm more curious on how it looks like from all angles. the only pics that i can find are of the Compressor side showing the Fins and Serial numbers....
 
Thats all you need really, otherwise there's not much differnce btwn the two. You need to just look at it, or post pics of it so we can help you out. If it's a single height fin it's a 14b, if it's doubt heights then it's a 16g. Well. . . as long as both have tdo5 housings.

yea i got ripped off:notgood::confused: dammit...okay, well now i'm curious about what turbo this is...but thanks everyone that helped me on this...grrr, i'm gonna be pissed all day today because of this...but luckily it wasnt that much money spent on it.
 
it could have a t3-t4 flange. The guy you got the turbo from did he own a dsm or say what car it came off of. Cause a 14b will have a mitsu flang and would bolt right even if your a 2g. You just would need a j-pipe and new oil lines, like wise with the 16g you will need a 2g install kit for it.

well, the guy said that he had a 98 mitsu eclipse GST and he said that it just bolted right to his 2G manifold but i think he is full of ****. the DSM classified link that eclipseGSTud posted shows a different kinda of pattern than the turbo that i have. mine is more rectangular and the 14b is square...but other than that, it looks the same.

I'm not buying that expensive 2g install kit when i know i can piece everything together and save about...100+ bucks:thumb: (I'm thanking DSMTuners for that info)
 
Okay so my housing says Mitsubishi and underneath it is TEO4H and then to the left of all that is a set of numbers: 4387235...anybody have any ideas?
 
i took some pics with my phone yesterday before i got my car back (T25 turbo FTL!) I'll upload 'em up when i get off of work today..
 
Sorry everybody, I've been hella busy with work and fixing my car (boost leaks, MAS, SAFC, etc...) but i did figure out what car that turbo came from...a 80s Chrysler turbo. The funny thing is that, a 3000gt tuner just looked at it and told me what it was, LOL!
 
Probably from a Chrysler 2.2 turbo. I'd talk to the guy who sold it to you, especially if he's local. Check your PMs.

Hes local but he wont answer his phone or my txt messages...so i'm out a couple bucks
 
DSM flanged turbos have circular turbine inlets.

If that turbo is in good shape you can probably get a few $$ for it on a TD forum. Don't expect much though, they are a crappy turbo :( I sell all my junk ones to Honda kids :D
