Well this is a used trans I picked up awhile ago and ran last season. I never had any issues with it and everything seemed to work perfect as it ran consistent low 11s. I was working on welding the center diff and while I was trying to pull the viscous coupler out I had to drop the pan to pull the stopper bolt out. I have never pulled the pan before and what I found was not good as you can see from the pics. You can see the wire on the magnet and I found more of the same wire wrapped around the vicious coupler? Maybe not sure what that is for sure but I ended up getting close to a foot of wire out of there. Im having trouble removing the front bearing retainer and the viscous coupler which is behind it. I think it might have to do with what I found. I'm completely lost at why this has happened and how and also why I haven't noticed any symptoms. Not to sure were to go from here.......

The last picture shows where it seemed the wire was coming from.

Looks like welding wire too me, but for what reason it is in there is beyond me if that is what it is..

Someone left the solder in between the gears when they rebuilt it?

It has got to be some kind of wire. By for what reason idk, there isn't any of that in the VC. Was it working fine before I say you may be ok to run it.

I would run it, if it worked fine before you pulled the pan you might as well. Who knows? It might last you another year, you'll never know until you try. I would start saving up for a new transmission though.

Thats the thing I have no idea because this is my first auto, that is why I was seeing if anybody knew. And everything thing seemed fine to me.

yeah I have a couple others laying around but they are of unknown condition so ill probably just end up rebuilding one of those while I try this one out.

ok I figured out what the spacer was from when I tore apart the diff. It was the spacer for the rear slide gear. I still have no idea what the wire is from though. Since Im welding the center diff anyway do I even need that spacer? Im not to clear on that yet but hopefully I will find the answer.

In case someone else runs into this problem as I just did. The wire is from the inside of the viscious coupler, in between each plate in the coupler is a ring that separates the plates, these rings come up and tear shit up and make hell.
