What head is this?

Okay, so I purchased a head in the classifieds on here and the guy said it was out of a 96 eclipse gsx. but what i noticed is the thermostat housing doesn't fit. I have a 95 gsx. I have attached pictures. Mine is the top

to add, the intake ports a little smaller on the head i purchased. if all I need is a 1g thermostat housing then fine, ill get one.. also, will this head affect my tune?

The first head is a 2G head. The second is a 1G head. You can use a 1G thermostat housing on a 2G head but you cannot use a 2G thermostat housing on a 1G head.

Accompanying a 1G thermostat housing, yes, a 1G water pipe is required.

You will also want to run a 1g intake manifold as well, the 2g im runners are much smaller than the larger 1g head runners. I ran into this issue a while ago.. the 2g mani will not work properly... just fyi

Seems like the perfect opportunity for a cyclone intake manifold!

indeed. too bad its not a hyundai head. get the compression bump and use the cyclone w/o any mods. although im pretty sure a filled cyclone/2g head combo is better.

did they make a 1g 7 bolt? Years 92.5 and up?

Yes 92.5-94, where 1g 7 bolt engines. And if I were choosing, I would go with the 2g head, and an evo 3 I/m of possible. Clean up and maybe a little port matching and combustion chamber cc ing and polishing. Do the oil port mod and porting before you send it to machine shop for decking and, if you haven't had it done, enlarging the head bolt holes to 12mm.
