what engine do i have?

I recently bought another AWD dsm Itsa 92 gsx bought it with the engine in it and bad trans. long story short after cleaning and replacing all the stuff it needed while I had the engine out. I finished putting the holset on and tested the compression one the starter was able to be hooked up and it came out 220 on each cyl. with of course 10 to 15 psi differencethe highest being 225 lowest at 210. As I remember the turbo blocks should be at 160 or so and non turbos are higher. Do I have a n/t block someone mistakenly put in stupidly?

I looked it up and the only engines that should have that high psi are the earlier galant blocks. per here.

so what im sayin is how the heck can I tell what block this thing came out of? I'm of course gonna build a turbo engine eventually but has anyone heard or seen any good resultys from this?

On all my 4G63 engines, there's a vin# stamped into the block above the transmission bellhousing. It's tiny, but if you get that and decode the vin, you'll be able to tell not only what engine it is, but where it was made, when, for what car, and even what trim level and seatbelts were used in the car it came from.

I dont think I'm gonna have it that easy this block was real rusty. I had it out to clean it up with the pressure washer and painted it. I will look for that number you speak of, but as you can see by the pics above there isnt any numbers left on the flat area under no. 1 cyl. so i doubt one will be there. I am gonna go for a base tune naturally aspirated first to get it to idle and run then ill go for the turbo hooked up when I get the greddy emanage or dsm link.

When I get off work I will let you guys know what i see as far as vin number. wish I woulda seen this before it was all put back together.

ran the number off the block so its a pre 93 6 bolt out of a 1g fwd automatic dsm :thumb:

so next question. will the turbo head on a non turbo block raise the compression that high? (225) in the cylinder because per the test instructions it should only be about...

1G (90-94)(2.0L NT engine )
Compression ratio (9.0:1)
Standard compression (192 psi)
Service limit (145 psi)

Oh well looks like i will be having fun tuning it or paying some money to someone to put a tune on it for me.:ohdamn:

who the hell would put a nt engine in what dumb axxes!..:nono:
 
I've never seen a 6 bolt from 93 with that oil filter housing only on a Hyundai.

You should state who's misunderstanding what and not just say it.
 
To be completely honest, so long as you are careful with your tuning, you shouldnt have any issues with this engine.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but ALL 6-Bolts have big rods, the only difference between this motor and a turbo motor is the compression ratio and the oil squirters.

I say run it! tune it! and you will have alot of fun!
