What does it mean to 'kiss' a rod?

I got an engine built by a local machine shop and I went down to pick it up and one of the things they charged me for was "kiss big end of rods." I am wondering if someone can tell me wtf this means. I talked to AMS and they were thinking it probably meant pin fitting the rods. But on my receipt it already has a charge for pin fitting the rods. So if anyone knows what it means please let me know.

If rods are stock then I would say they deburred/ground the big end, hopefully for balancing purposes.

They were brand new out of the box Eagle rods.

I've never heard of anybody referring to it as a kiss, but they are most likely talking about honing the big end. Eagle's have pretty poor machining from the factory and a lot of builders correct it before they install them. I would call them on Monday and see if that's what they meant.

I would assume it was either grinding them for clearancing purposes or for re-honing them as stated above since all new rods should be taken apart, re-torqued, and honed before being installed in the motor. Why don't you just ask them?

Thanks for the replies. More than likely it is legitimate. They are a pretty reputable shop. I just wanted to see if anyone knew exactly what it meant before I questioned their work.

When you do any work to a rod it needs to be rebalanced. Sounds like someone took care of you checking over the rods completely so you should have a good set of rods there.
