What does eft tapped mean?

Alright guys, i have been looking around and can't seem to find what an eft tapped exhaust manifold means. But my guess would be that it means its a place that a sensor would go. But if i don't plan on installing a gauge is it bad for the manifold to be tapped. Would exhaust be leaking from the hole? Just wondering because i am looking at buying a 2g mani that says it is ported and tapped.

Thanks in advance

I believe they substituted a f for a g, being that they are next to eachother on the keyboard. An EGT gauge uses a thermocouple to tell you the exhaust temperature in the manifold. The manifold is usually tapped and the thermocuple comes with a threaded fitting which threads into the manifold.

BTW, you can buy a 1/8" NPT plug for the hole if you don't intend on using it, or have it welded shut.

They probably mean EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) which is a probe and gauge for measuring the exhaust temps. Yes, exhaust will come out of the hole if you don't put a temperature probe or plug in it.

Such as? The main purpose of an EGT is to get an idea of the A/F ratio.

Ever have a bad knock sensor and get into a pre-detonation situation while on a road course or the track? The EGT gauge will detect the immediate spike. I know of more than one person who has had his ass saved by an EGT gauge. A wideband will tell you the mixture, but not the temperature of the mixture. This is EXTREMELY important on cars that make big horsepower. Ever notice why lots of big HP guys run a probe in each cylinder?;) These guys who make big power are running their engines on the ragged edge of what they are capable of, not just putting around town at 16lbs on a 16g, for those people an EGT is pointless. When I peg my boost gauge past 30 psi I want to know exactly what is going on. I really don't even pay attention to my wideband. I know my tune is dialed in, all I care about are my EGT's and boost pressure.

Nice, now I don't see my EGT guage as so useless.

They aren't pointless at all. People think the wideband AFR gauge is the be all to end all, and it really isn't. It's a tuning tool, and without all the right tools your car will never make it to it's full potentioal (or it might, but it just won't last very long, as is the case with most DSM's, LOL). I think most of the problem now-a-days is that people don't understand them or what they're meant to do, plus they don't have all sorts of changing numbers or flashy lights so they aren't all that "cool".
