I had a short ram intake that i baught of ebay. I wasnt impressed with the performance gains of it so i was looking to buy an injen one to move my filter to where the turbos have there filter. Instead of paying $200 for an injen one i improvised by useing a 45 degree 3 inch tube and a red connector that i got from autozone, I was very surprised to feel the performance gains and it sounds so much better. My idealing has also improved. what do you think of it.

Looks good, but why not get one more or replace that 45 degree bend with a 90 degree straight down and make yourself a cold air?

Good idea i dindt think about that, after i get done with my finals this week ill give it a try thanks.

looks nice good thinking and improvising skills

If you go lower for a cold air then you'll probably want a bypass valve to. What this does is, when your filter gets wet it will suck air in from the bypass and not the intake. This way you wont suck water into your engine and blow the thing. But it does look sweet i was thinking of doing the same thing. I'm glad to hear it works so well.

Bypass filter = no no. If your engine sucks air through the bypass instead of the regular filter, it will not be getting read by the MAS and you will have issues. Plus, the bypass filter will only work if your filter is submerged which I hope would never happen. Don't make a CAI that relocates it very close to the ground because it is not real bad if the filter gets a small amount of water on it now and then, but I would never want to get any water ever on the MAS.

Sucking in water wouldn't "blow your engine". It would just hydrolock and not start for a couple of days.

water isn't compressable like air, sucking in water can increase compression, especially in forced induction motor causing detonation and subsequent destruction of your motor. it is NOT a good thing and is definately something to be concerned about.

edit: i just realized this was the nt thread but my post still stands...water = increased compression = kaboom. i just assumed the car was turbo since for some reason nt dsm's just don't register in my head LOL.

Either way...i would MUCH rather NOT suck water into my engine at all,so i would go with the bypass even if it did freak out the MAF its nothing 15 mins of the neg battery cable being disconnected cant fix. which is a hell of a lot less time than a rebuild.

umm if you hydrolock your car will never start again, not in a couple days. When the water doesnt compress it tends to start cracking and breaking pistons.

hmm...maybe because we'd be better help for ya LOLz

Here's some advice: hydrolocking = no no, not just some temporary down time :toobad:

or you can do what i did, which is go to the GM air flow sensors and than just move your filter where ever you want, i put the air flow sensor up near the stock location, and I have this other connection to bring it down near the wheel if I want the cold air on, which I plan on doing sometime later this month, boring out the hole and using a much bigger pipe.

Awsome intake. I really wished I had taken a picture of my intake I had on my NT years ago. I only had it installed for about a month before I went turbo and sold it to some local guy who sold his car so it's long gone.

But yours is very clean and impressive. Good work.

If you do not know what you're talking about, please refrain from posting on the subject.

Hydrolocking is never good for a car but to say it will need rebuilt or will never start again is not true and I have the experience to back up my statement.Last Fall I had made a cold air for my 4G64 spyder that moved it behind the air intake on a 2G.The filter does not have to be submerged to hydrolock nor does it have to be submerged for a bypass filter to work.My filter got soaked from mist hitting it from other cars on the road on a 40 mile drive home and when I pulled into my neighborhood and lowered rpm's it died.I thought the filter was just wet and would dry but the next day I found a lake on top of all 4 pistons.

I shop vac'd the water out, blow dried the intake, replaced the plugs and cranked it for 30 seconds and it fired up and smoked for 10 minutes and ran fine.Last compression test was about 3 months ago and it was near factory compression specs.

Just cause you hydrolock the car doesn't mean its dead...I may have got lucky but it really depends on each situation, saying that it definitly will or won't kill your car is just not right.

Very nice intake,I had made one for my first 1.8 laser but I like yours better. If you like the performance gain where it is I would leave it alone, thats where the filter is on my Spyder now after that hydrolock fun.

You just were very fortunate. A full out hydro-lock will bend a rod in most cases. What you probably experienced was water mist in the motor, rendering it unable to run but enough air was in the system for the piston/rod to compress something. It wasn't able to fire because of the water mist/liquid and the car died.

A full hydrolock will bend a rod. I've seen it done on a cavalier and it isn't pretty.

Two types of hydro you never want to be doing... Hydro planing and Hydro locking. Always end up in some sort of costly repair.
