What do I need for DSMlink?

You need to have an EPROM ECU.

If you don't have one, ECMTuning can convert your ECU to an EPROM.
ECMTuning, Inc.

Next you need to order an ECMlink package.

Lite version

Here you can see the comparison between the two.

Then you have to have a computer, which you already mentioned. Windows 7 works just fine with ECMlink.

There are some other things we'd recommend you get, such as a wideband o2 sensor, and possibly a MAP and IAT sensor if you want to monitor those or even go speed density. You can search on here for more info about these items, which are recommended, which go better with link, etc.

All of this^ and you don't really need the MAP or IAT sensors unless you are going to run speed density and throw away the MAF. But you do NEED a wideband if you plan on tuning.

You need to save $600 and go with dsmap. If you have eprom the only real purchase item you will need it moates ostrich 2.0, Which i think there is still one in the classifieds atm.

Heres a link if you'd like to check it out.

:toobad:

DSMLink is much more user friendly. But its your car, do what you want.

Have you personally used Jackal? I love the ui. The new version of Werewolf is in beta, looks very promising as well.

No, i've known people that have used it and didn't like it b/c it was harder to get their car running the way they wanted it to. But theres also a guy around me that loves it too. I just know that link is the most user friendly tuning progran out right now.

DSMLink fine tunes itself.

If you have patience and don't have the funds to spend on link. I guess you could always go with Jackal.

There probably is a lot of preference involved but both just as capable.

I would say you're right there is a lot of preference involved. You may also be right when saying the two are equally capable (I'm ignorant here, thus have no personal opinion), however ECMlink has a distinct advantage that other software doesn't have. Popularity.

Whether it's because it's better in any way (subjective) is irrelevant, but the assistance one receives when purchasing the ECMlink software is second to none.

This. Popularity also means further advancement.

Closed source means people smarter then the creators can not change it for the better. Its how a couple people want it and thats how its going to be.

Anyone with a 1g should atleast give Jackal a shot. All the same functions without the huge price tag.

For $500-600 it better haha. But there are some very helpful people over on the dsmap forums. Plus guides and write ups.

Popularity.

That may be true, but anyone that has ever tuned anything can pick up Jackal with ease.

Ok, no more arguing about link vs. jackal. The user can do their research and decide. If they have any specific questions on either package, they can ask.

Exactly, this thread is about ECMLink not Jackal. It should be marked as resolved, every question the OP asked has been answered. Now its just a discussion between ECMLink and Jackal.

I hate it when this happens.

But just because the thread has link in the title, doesn't mean he can't inform the OP of other options. We just don't need any arguing. We are not elitist here, so we should be able to civilly talk about all options.

I see what you're saying. But its very easy for a discussion to develop into an argument, which is what happened . His questions were answered and he got the info he needed for both Link and Jackal.

:boring: I'm tired.
