So my dad and I just purchased a 1991 Mitsubishi eclipse (4G37) and I was wondering what the possibilities are in terms of performance. After looking around I realized our model isn't the most popular, but if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to let me know. This is our first DSM and quite honestly we don't know what to expect!

Honestly, not worth the time or effort. An absolute max effort worlds fastest 4G37 gets absolutely curb stomped by a 4G63 with a 14B. By all means do what you like but honestly, I’d just 4G63T swap it and be done. You’ll spend less, it’ll be easier, and way faster.

Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done for performance. The 4g37 was only rated at 92hp. Anyway, you can get a K&N air filter and cut up the air can, and remove the silencer behind the MAF sensor on the air can lid. Cat back exhaust if you can find one (routing is the same for all FWD) and maybe a high flow cat (or eliminate it altogether). Run premium gas and advance the ignition timing as far as possible. Unorthodox Racing used to make an underdrive crank pulley years ago, but you'd be hard pressed to find one now, even if you didn't care that it eliminated the harmonic balancer. Even if you did all that, you'd still fall short of the output of the non-turbo 4g63. On the plus side, they get great gas mileage.
