So, a buddy of mine has an 1989 NA Plymouth Laser 5-spd laying around, and was wondering what i can use to benefit my 2nd gen GSX... anything ? thanks :thumb: :dsm:

Most of the engine is the same as your turbo engine (aside from being a 6-bolt). I'd pull the engine to have as a spare to eventually rebuild and swap in.

If the car is complete, it can be parted out and decent turn around can be seen from it.

That is what I would do. Even though the motor doesn't have squirters it can still be built up just fine. Some people swear by the squirters, some just get rid of them and never have problems. Other than that there isn't really anything compatable between the 2 cars but definatly take the motor and just part the car out.

"aside from being a 6-bolt" - i hear a lot of people swapping out a 2nd gen's 7-bolt of a 1st gen's 6-bolt... would this be the same application. if so, would my 7-bolt bolt up to his car?

The NA and turbo 6bolts are the same, only difference is the pistons and oil squirters, or lack there of. Is the Laser a 4g63 though? It could also be the lame 1.8.

is the N/A 1st gen 6 bolt the same as the turbo's 1st gen 6 bolt?
It's close. The differences are:

ECU
intake cam
Exhuast manifold
Turbo
O2 Housing
Downpipe
Side Mount Intercooler, BOV, And all Piping
Knock sensor
MAS
injectors and fuel pump
Pistons and rings

Everything else on that 2.0L N/T should be the same as a 1G 6-bolt turbo engine.

The 1G n/a throttle body is much bigger than the 2G one (1G n/a 60mm 2G turbo 52mm) and with a little polishing of the intake manifold you can get it to work on your car. Here is a link on how to do everything. I need to do the same with my car. It will provide a big pwer increase for cheap and very little work. Good luck man. I would also do as the others said and save the block to build yourself a bolt engine, then part out the rest.
