i was getting some new rubber put on the talon today. and some honda guy that worked there came up to me and said did i wanna buy a mitsu turbo, i looked at it and its brand new rebuild. i had never seen a mhi turbo like this so i done some research and its a syclone turbo tdo6 17c its a brand new turbo and he doesnt know what to do with it and said he wants 75 bucks for it. i know its t3 flange but what more do i need to know about it?

wow i would not have thought that about it. it looked smaller than a 20g so i figured it would be the best between a 16g and a 20g. guess i was wrong hahaha. now i know. would the t3 exhaust housing be worth the 75 bucks he wants for it

Forgive me for not being 100% turbo literate. I have a friend of mine that is doing something with a 17c. Something about a bastard turbo I think. Somehow making some changes to it, a Frankenstein turbo using parts of other Mitsubishi turbos. He is expecting a decent amount of power from this for his fwd. I'm not saying he's right or wrong for doing this or attempting to discredit anyone that has commented before me, but may be relevant to op's question.

He'll be disappointed.

A 17C compressor is designed for low boost on an OEM application much like our factory 14B. A Big 16G wheel has nearly the same spec as a 17C but has better high-boost efficiency.

To make matters worse, the factory 17C turbo as a whole was designed for a low-boost, high-displacement application. Putting such a turbo on a high-boost, small-displacement application is not wise. At best, a 17C on a DSM would be a really laggy Big 16G.

Let's put it to you this way- the Sy/Ty guys go crazy for 20G's because of better boost efficiency when they turn up the wick. If they're abandoning the 17C once they begin to mod, you don't want it either.
