What can I do about power steering bearing squeak?

So I found out that the source of my squeak is from my power steering... And it's not a loose belt... Is there anything I can do to fix the ps itself like a rebuild or is my only option to buy a new one? Thanks

I bought a reman unit from an auto parts place. It is garbage... Just slightly less noise and externally looks uglier then the one it replaced. The next step is to rebuild my old one with an oem rebuild kit.

Beat me to it. Rebuild it super easy to do. Hell you could paint it too to make it look nice.

All I change on my steering pump was the bearing that the pulley/shaft rides on. Stopped the squeaky noise and has been good ever since. Took the bearing to napa auto parts where they measured it and found the right size bearing which cost me $6.

Was going to change gaskets and all too but it was not in stock or they kept on ordering the wrong parts.

Alright so rebuilding it with a new bearing is possible? Hmmm then I may have to do just that.

I have been trying to track down a squeak on my son's '96 myself. I used a stethoscope at first and thought it was coming from the tensioner - so I replaced the PS belt and the tensioner bearing (and the tensioner bolt because it was stripped out)..... put it all back together and it still squeaks. So, I removed the new belt and started the car with no power steering belt - and NO squeak. So, I am now assuming it's either the A/C or the power steering bearings? I gave each a spin when the belt was off and couldn't hear any offending noise, but both do have a little bit of 'play' when you try to wiggle the pulleys.

While the belt was out, I gave the new belt and tensioner a light scuff with sandpaper and put the belt back on so it can be driven, and the squeak is still there. It doesn't seem to change pitch or anything when I turn the steering wheel (driving or sitting still), so I am leaning toward it being the A/C pump bearing?

My husband has been working gawdawful hours, so I am trying to get this figured out myself. My son is NOT mechanical at all. My older son is, but he's away at college.
