What can an AWD in FWD handle?

I got my AWD tranny with a welded center diff only hooked up to the front axles i'm just wondering if it can handle a decent amount of power like the FWD trannys? Is it prone to the common problem of the FWD tranny where the roll pin on the front diff cross shaft breaks? It seems to me that the hollow front pinion shaft in the AWD would make it much weaker than its solid counterpart in the FWD. I know a lot of guys dyno their cars in FWD and do ok so lets see what kind of numbers people dynoed switched in FWD and a loaded dyno mode with either a welded center or VC eliminator and what broke if it did.

Auto or stick? out of 1G or 2G, and what year tranny?

It would be a 5spd and a '92 1G.

Well so far I've pushed it to 19psi on my PTE SC6176/2.4L and it seems to be fine. Car ran 11.5 in this exact configuration except it had all diffs moving it. Torque steer is incredible let me tell you I need 2 lanes on the highway to keep it on the road...might be time for a precision allignment ROFL

you get about 12% more power with a fwd dyno vs a awd dyno. And no I don't think the trans would last as long in fwd mode.

You my freind have just embarked on a very good transmission. The 92 tranny is pretty damm good. It can hold whatever you want to throw at it. Till it breaks, which will be sooner than later depending on mods and power. So really don't worry about it breaking yet.., but if it does Shep has all the new gears and syrcro's you need to rebuild...

You will not be able to put enough torque through the trans in FWD only, because it will just spin the tires. The front diff sun gears will be working hard when you are doing a one tire fire, but other than that the gears are really under very little load.

Wheelhop will break the roll pin and kill the front diff quickly. If you put down the power smoothly, the diff will stay in one piece.

Try to avoid doing a one wheel burnout from 1st to second gear. I did it and one side gear welded itself to the diff housing, instant welded front diff.
