Anyone know what kind of HP the rear Diff and Axles can handle? and im talking about alone as in a RWD setup.

I think it all comes down to how hard you beat on it, and how much stress you put on it.. ive seen a guy make multiple passes at 10.1 at 140 mph on stock drivetrain, and even stock tranny it all comes down to abuse

Stock diff cover is the big weak point. Get a billet rear diff cover and some soild bushings for the driveshaft, diff, and subframe and it will take a beating. Your launching technique will also have a big part in how well it will hold up.

Yeah Im thinking about using it in a RWD only kinda setup so the trans wouldn't be mitsu either just the rear end would be. Unless anyone knows a heavier duty rear end that would go into the AWD rear sub frame without to many modifications necessary?

3kgt. Contact English Racing. But if you're doing a rwd build, it makes no sense to me why you wouldn't do an 8.8 or 9" solid? It's not that difficult.

I'll do some sEarching on the 3kgt.

And I don't wanna do solid axle I wanna keep it IRS it's going to be a street car

If you're going to go through the trouble of turning the engine 90* and running a RWD trans then you've probably got the fab tools to swap in a tougher IRS pumpkin from a chevy or ford as well. I'm not sure what they go for used, but doesn't seem like money is gonna be an issue with this build, you could get a corvette pumpkin which will hold a lot more power than a DSM or 3kgt rear housing.

What he said, but a corvette pumpkin is part of a transaxle, unless you go back into the older models. can i ask why you want to go rwd, independent suspension and keep a street car? I think it would be sick, maybe see an eclipse do some drifting. If you do have the money to go rwd, then spend about $2500 on a custom subframe with an SC300 or Supra differential and thats going on a very very cheap quote considering diffs are selling used for $950 for LSD models. I was told about $4500 for this set-up, custom subframe, custom axles, custom brake set-up, Supra TT differential (yes they can and will take a beating) adjustable control arms. Sure it'd be sick, but at that cost so would getting a built trans with an evo diff, 4-spyder center and lsd front diff and that combo could take more than most could throw at it! I know it sucks we can drift but with awd we can take corners fast and also surprise other drag cars.

Evo is out of the question the car was a 420a stock. And have been thinking of swapping in something else in but wanted to try and stay with the dsm stuff cause of ease of installation. And the ability to replace parts when they brake, custom stuff is cool but I wanna build a nice street car and rwd is just fun! Was also thinking maybe miata? The rear width is close to the same I think and if I gotta change a hub and custom bearing that wouldent be so bad. My idea is to build something with as much off the shelf parts as I can an I'm thinking for shooting for about 400hp maybe 500

I have drifted my DSM in RWD mode and my axles break like every other day, around 400hp, and if not axles the cross inside the diff that holds the spider gears breaks, welded or not they both go pretty easily.

I have been toying with the idea of putting in the Cobra IRS in the rear, their axles are pretty beefy, and can handle some hard launches when in cobras, 1.5 60', but the way subframe bolts up is completely different... So, the other rear end would be the 240sx, but it's hard to match the gearing if keeping the FWD...
And I believe the cobra rear end has the 3.55 gear which is close enough to the 1G rear diff 3.54

Post up if anybody has done a rear end swap with a stronger IRS
