a 4g63 is a 4g63 only difference is the turbo and less compression pistons, i dont see why 272's wont work it is the same engine for the most part.

if you want lopey idle just pull some sensor plugs that might make it lope wildly.
 
LOL pull some sensors plugs. yeap i was thinking there are turbo cams dont they have more duration the N/A cams with less lift? or could i get cam gears and degree them in?
 
I'd upgrade the cams and get cam gears to dial in the tune for your car. NA engines benefit from high lift and high duration just like turbo engines. If you upgrade the cams, be prepared to loose some low end power and gain top end, just like a turbo engine. The overall power gains won't be as much as a turbo engine, though.
 
Turbo vs. non turbo is more of a cam timing thing. 272s will help your n/a build if you time them on a dyno to your n/a motor. N/a motors like more overlap than turbo motors with open turbine housings (non-divided runer manifolds with twinscroll housings).

If it helps N/A cams have the same cam duration and lift as early turbo cams. The only difference was that the intake cam was advanced more. So 272s with more intake cam advance SHOULD be what your after if you want a peeky topend 4g63 n/a motor.
 
An option you might look into would be to find some AMG cams. I used to have an AMG tuned N/T engine in my 92 Laser and it was a little lopey but made quite impressive power! I don't know the specifics of the grind but I do know the compression was ~10.5:1. The hp was about 180 at the crank with an overbored/polished TB in my case (someone had put some love on it :D) it was probably slightly higher. Biggest drawback was it required 93 octane and would still occasionally ping when I ran it hard. You could get away with turbo injectors to keep it from leaning out though. No matter what you end up going with, some sort of engine management system would be required if you want the motor to last. Something more than an SAFC, more like a greddy emanage that could control your fuel AND timing would be best since dsmlink isn't available for a N/T. My AMG died before I put the emanage on and I'm still kicking myself for procrastinating and probably causing an early demise for an otherwise awesome engine.

How did you get the CR to a 10.5:1? did you mill the head? if so how much? wow this is helping me out so much thanks:hellyeah:
 
I didn't get it up to 10.5, AMG did! I'd assume they used different pistons to raise the compression vs milling down the block or head. These engines run too close to comfort as is without bringing the pistons/valves closer together.
I know it's probably not what you wanted to hear but you'll need new pistons. Just about all the major piston mfg will make custom pistons for you but they're more expensive. It was part of the reason my car went to the junkyard, I couldn't find replacement AMG pistons. If you're just looking for more power without throwing a turbo on, throw a 75 wet shot on there. If you want a stealthier approach and don't normally have passengers in the rear seat, hollow out the foam and put the bottle under the seat but I highly recommend adding a safety blow off tube exiting the compartment.
