2G What battery should I buy?

Just like it says. Which battery are you guys using? any recommendations?

I have a red top Optima, I have had no problems yet. I have seen that some people have problems with them though. I think most people would recommend a gold top Optima. It's a little more expensive, would have gotten it myself but they did not have any in stock and I needed a batt ASAP. Hope this helps some.

Good luck with finding a good battery, it seams like about 1 in 5 turn out to be a POS! Walmart's seam to be expectantly bad, the only ones i have had good luck with is the ones that autozone use to sell, i have one in my van that is 12 years old and still working good! FYI i have never tried a Optima.

I've worked at Advance Auto Parts for the past four years and have seen quite a few red tops come back as defective. Very few yellow tops have come back. Of course I haven't seen every battery come back nor counted them.

What you battery you should get depends on what you will be using it for. Do you need a lightweight one to shave weight off for racing? Are you going to relocate it to the trunk so you need a sealed one? Do you have a huge stereo so you need something that can take abuse? Or is it just and everyday car that sees the track every once and a while and you just need it to start?

For me, my biggest concern is warranty. If you go with a typical lead acid battery, pay the extra 10 bucks to upgrade for another year of warranty, its well worth it. Decide on what you need more than want and go from there.

Deka ETX 20 Motorcycle battery.

Doesn't weigh much, and gets the job done, for $77 shipped on ebay. You've got to make/modify a tray, but it takes 20lbs off the nose of the car.

i started with a pepboys battery - only lasted a few months - went through 3 optima red tops that all lasted less than a year - thought they were supposed to be the best - now running a duralast red top and it's been going strong for more than a year - even held a charge all winter while car was stored

I have an Optima redtop, love it. However, it seems alot of the Optima's are dying prematurely since JCI bought out Optima. For that reason if mine dies I'll get an Exide Orbital or Odyssey.

I have a yellow top. I've had issues with a few red tops, and I havent had issues with the yellow tops yet.

My original battery just took a shit on me. I am looking to buy a optima yellow but i am having a hard time locating one for my car. However it is easier for me to find red tops. I can't get any listing battery part # in the store book from walmart or costco for my car. The optima website gives for my car a model# 25 (9025-160) that no one stocks. From what i can see is that the #25 listed on the site is basically the exact same as the #35 (8020-164) red top, the only difference is that the posts are reverse from one another (negative is on positve side instead, vice versa). Wondering if anyone else ran into the same problem? The negative cable for my car is really short.

Thanks.

I have the Exide Orbital XD(xtreme duty) and it won't hold a charge 14 months later. Lost my reciept otherwise I would take it back to 4wd parts for replacement. Otherwise I have heard pretty good things about them.
