I own a 2002 eclipse gs and I found a 97 gst with 200,000 miles on the body, 140,000 on the motor and 20,000 on the tranny. The guy is asking $3,500 or trade a 2000+ eclipse with an automatic tranny which I have right. The Kelly blue book value for his car is $3,500 like he posted but mine is around $5,000. That I know of his is stock. Do u think this is a fair trade or what would make it a fair trade? Also I would like to know if the gst has any problems with running right?

i bit to many miles on everything to be safe in these types of cars, i would stay away from that gst. There way better deals out there for that kind of money.. IMO

Well, your 3g is a gs, which means it's the sucky of the sucky. And the GST has 200k miles, so it's kind of up in the air.

It kind of just depends on what you feel. I would probably trade though, just because I hate the 3g since I came out of my retarded ricer year that I had.

I say keep looking. You will find a better deal out there. Either on the regular sites or in the classifieds on this site.

Why not put the EVO head on your car and turbo your current one?

Okay thank you guys for the information. The only resion why I got the 3G gs was I need a car like now. I'm not going to do the evo head swap just because it cost about $3,000 just for the head swap and you don't get that much gain in horse power, from what I read about you can put a Kia head on there for half the price and make the same power but I dont know what head it is tho. Do u guys know any good sites or places to look for a good 2nd gen by any chance? And thank you for not being complete dicks like alot people on other forms are to new people.

Okay thank you I've all ready got screwed on a car once and I don't want it to happen again.

Just make sure you have a chance to look over the car before you get one. Take a buddy with you if your unsure of what you are doing. A lot of people like to do a compression test on turbo cars before they buy them, just to make sure there isn't any problems.

Oh, and welcome to the site. Make sure you follow the rules so you don't get flammed or bothered by the mods. The DSM community is a fun one. If you do end up getting one, post it so people can check it out.

Okay I'll keep that in mind. My friend had a second gen rs pushing almost 400hp non turboed so I'll take him when he gets back from boot camp and how hard is it to do a compression test?

Awww, man. You were going in the right direction. He had an RS then he put a turbo on it right? RS-T, N/A with turbo?

IF your buddy was claiming 400hp out of a N/A without a turbo then I wouldn't take him.

Either way, this car will get you addicted.

It is possible to pull that kind of power out of a N/A just its extremely rare to see people pull it off right, sounds like your buddy has a firm grip on the fine tuning details and nuances of pulling every ounce of power out of a N/A motor, props to him.

I say this because my dad had a pinto back in 86 that was pushing 350WHP N/A... it takes a crapton of work to pull it off but it is possible, he sounds like a smart guy.

I got one more question for you if you don't mind? What would you say would be a decent price for a 2nd gen gst or gsx or talon that's turboed I don't know what there called all I know is the Tsi?

Thats actually a pretty tough question. It all goes by condition, year, and area the DSM is in. I would say for an earlier 2G with a few mods and taken care of shoud be around $5,000 or so. Thats just a guess.

2G DSM's

Eclipse:
GS-T, turbo front wheel drive
GS-T Spyder, turbo front wheel drive
GSX, turbo all wheel drive

Talon:
Tsi, turbo front wheel drive
Tsi AWD, turbo all wheel drive

Okay thank you again for all the help and information. This is by far the best form I have been.

Hey try crxsi.com I came across a few gsx's there. But honestly dont rush into things, I did that with my first dsms and I ended up regretting it. The one I currently have i searched for days and hours to find. Just be patient and trust me itll pop up, but for now take a look at that site and see what you find.

I knew the tsi was the turboed modle but I didn't know that there was a Tsi and a Tsi awd I thought they were all awd and the fwd drive were called something different. Ill keep looking and take my time and keep looking thank you guys.

I rushed into things because I was so excited to get the car I always wated. I messed it up right away and I'm now in the process of fixing my mistakes and making the car better at the same time.

yes you should, any DSM is better then no DSM :hellyeah:

LOL don't get desperate. I waited 10 years for mine! You'll be fine grass hoppa!

Like he said, take your time finding one in good mechanical condition (even if it has that many miles it might still have been well taken care of, 5000 miles driven like a lunatic with mods done questionably can be just as bad, so make sure you check it thoroughly before you buy it). I've heard of many bad buys of people buying a car for cheap (and in most cases bragging about it) only to find out a month down the road that the replacement parts/maintenance and downtime to fix it would have gotten them a good one from the get-go. Get it right the first time.

I bought mine a while back, for quite a bit and got a lot of mocking from my buddies, but out of the 7 years I've had it only thing that's gone wrong with is the alternator ;)

Okay cool, I mainly want a mistubishi because I used to have a 97 galant and I loved it, but I don't know what kind I want so I'm just looking into everything and reading up on there specs and all that good stuff.

That's what I want. I want a gst, gsx, Tsi, Tsi awd, 3000gt vr4 or a galant vr4. If u guys want to text me any suggestions or anything that might be off topic my number is 636-233-0593 I work the over nights so I'll be on this most of the night of you can just text me it doesn't bother me.
