knock and pre-ignition are not the same thing.I-luv-em-all said:A knock is pre-ignition, which i believe when the fuel in the combustion chamber ignites before the piston hits top dead center. It can be caused by incorrect fuel grade, ignition timing is out, fouled or worn out spark plugs, and other things. it is not a good thing it causes carbon build up and tends to blow headgaskets.
