I am a noobe and was wondering what are knocks. Also what do they have to do in a car?

A knock is pre-ignition, which i believe when the fuel in the combustion chamber ignites before the piston hits top dead center. It can be caused by incorrect fuel grade, ignition timing is out, fouled or worn out spark plugs, and other things. it is not a good thing it causes carbon build up and tends to blow headgaskets.

Can someone post a picture of where the knock sensor is and also a picture of how it looks like?

what seems to be the problem with your car? if its making a knocking noise i wouldnt suggest driving it too much cause you ll damage it furthur! :shhh:

The knock sensor is located about middle of the block on the back side. Below the intake manifold. It's almost just a round plug that screws into the block itself. The easiest way to get to it is from underneath. If yours has gone bad it will be leaking goo when you remove it.

knock and pre-ignition are not the same thing.
