I just bought a 97 gsx 5 days ago for 2800 bucks, ran great when i got it, it has 70K on it and no rust and loaded. Well after a day of driving it the turbo blew on it, i had the same one laying around and i replaced it, the old 14b the shaft was split in have and both sides had play. After replacing it two days ago that night i was driving around 60 mph and it started knocking at a certain rpm and got worse till the car died and overheated, The exhaust was redhot and before that it was throwing a fuel trim bank 1 code (thought it was from the blown turbo)...Well i was able to make it home and i was so pissed i just let it sit. Well the previous owner had welbro 255 fuel pump installed and a afpr. It also has a adjustable cps on it with some honco wiring job.. The Fuel pressure is set at 30psi? sounds low to me and its running from the gas line to the afpr into the stock reg with no vacume line on the stock one? Sounds weird to me but i heard it was open with no line on it..So I think im in time for a rebuild because it has a rod knock and metal in the oil. I pulled #1 plug and it was smached in, i also pulled the valve cover and one of the exhaust rockers on #1 cylinder was off laying there and a intake rockers on cylinder 3 was off also.
Tell me what you guys think would caused this? Crank walk? The kid screwing me? The rockers? Low fuel pressure? The adjustable cam sensor timed wrong? any opinion is needed, how much usually for a rebuild also? id do the tearing down and building.
Here are some pics of the fuel regulator and the rockers
