so im new to this forum my name is troy i currently drive a 2000 eclipse gt im not new to the forum life and understand the mechanics of it. Im currently on socal3g.com and club3g.com. im currently looking at a 97 GSX with a 104k miles on it. it had a fire on the passenger side of the engine bay that lasted maybe a minute, but was enough to melt wires and tubing. from what it looks like the fuse box is fine but the main harness is pretty toasty along with some sensors in that area. iv been looking around this forum trying to figure out what exactly i should be worried about as far as what to replace and look for. does anyone have any suggestions or links that i could look at before i decide to buy the GSX or Not? the person im thinking of buying this car off is moving soon so i was trying to get as much info as possible within this week. any info would be a major help thanks in advance.

If there are quite a few connectors fried I would replace the wiring harness for a new one, which goes for around 400 dollars. If that is too much for your wallet then I would go get a used wiring harness from the salvage yard and be careful to inspect it as well. You might even find an even cheaper route to hack a wiring harness for parts that is in a salvage car. You could also solder in some new wiring in the burned sections for some extra insurance if you go the hacking route.

Depends on what can angle sensor it has. But i am making the assumption that it's the 2gb, even though some people use the green top CAS sometimes, but you can find a 2GB wiring harness around here for a good deal. Re-doing the wires yourself would be good and all but come time to add electronics it might get really confusing to know which wire is which of you use just red/black wires. But it depends how deep into it you want to get.

ya for the price of the car ($1800) im not to worried about spending some money. i know a bunch of dsm guys on the 3g forums that already have enough parts to make a whole new 2g. gotta love the mitsu guys and gals they usually stick together and help each other out. ill defiantly getting a new engine harness and ill have a fun time figuring out whats what but in the end it'll be worth it.
