Alright, I was driving down the road just fine. About 15 min into the drive, the temp gauge started to climb and got to about 3/4 of the way up. So, I pulled over before it got any hotter to check it out. Turns out my heater hose popped off. There was still a bunch of coolant coming out so it was not running completely empty. But then I tried to start it up and it wont start. The starter is engaging and the engine in turning over but it wont start at all. It sounds like there is 0 compression on all cylinders. It wont jump start/pop the clutch start either, it started perfectly every time before this. Any suggetions on what this could be?

ps. Sorry for the mis-spelling in the title

Check the CEL codes, then take a compression test. You most likely blew the HG, but if it's not turning over at all it's possible the rings welded themselves to cylinder walls, or somethign else horrific like that.

It turns over fine, it feels like its turning over too easy and there is no resistance from the compression. I will do a compression test and post the results. But how would the car getting to 3/4 temperature for less than 5 min blow a HG? Rebuild less than 500miles ago too. :(

I had a similar thing happen to me. I was coming home from work, about 10 mins into the trip, the car started losing power and the temp gauge pegged into the red. I pulled over and the car died. Tried to start back up after letting it cool down for a bit but same thing, sounded like there was no compression and it wouldn't start. After about 30 minutes of sitting and pulling my hair, I cranked her again and it sounded normal again and finally started and I haven't had a problem since. Mine over heated cause for some reason the fan never kicked in, but like I said it hasn't done it since. Hope you get it figured out!

Im going to try to start it as soon as im back in town. If it doesnt start im going to do a compression test. Ive been working on this for a year and cost me 3000$, that a whole lot for a college student and I still havent got it on the road. If i get bad compression results it looks like ill have to sell it :(. Or get a new pre-built longblock becasue im tired of issues like this.

Well, i did a compression test but only on one cylinder becasue thats all it takes to need a rebuild. Guess what I got...0. And there is coolant in all my cylinders. So, looks like my HG is gone and its time to tear it apart... again. What do you guys suggest while its apart? Cometic HG with ARP studs?

Oh dang! Did you do the rebuild yourself? Sorry about your luck man...

Ah that sucks ,,,, I think you'd be fine with a composite mitsu HG and ARP's. Those mls are good but I think stock would suffice.

Make sure you have the head checked for cracks and warpage. ;)

I dont know when you did you head the first time if you changed your timing belt and water pump but this would be a good time to do that too.
