what a dilemma

My goals for this summer to lose my track virginity. However, I want it to be great, just like any other devirginizing, if you know what I mean. Therefore, I've been preparing my car for a bigger turbo. Fuel system is nearly done. After this weekend, hopefully all I need left is 850cc injectors. I have DSMLink, my EPROM is chipped, and I have a Tial 38mm on the way. However, I recently started truly thinking of the turbo install. I decided on a BEP T04e 50 trim from Slowboy, who has a sale going on now.

Problem is, I'm the type of guy who wants to do everything right, once, and get it over with. Since the swap of a turbo needs to drain fluids, it would be ideal to do the swap at the next oil change. But since you also need to flush the radiator, why not install a new aluminum radiator too right? But wait, that means I'll need an AT cooler since aftermarket radiators do not support that. The only ideal way to install the cooler would be in the stock sidemount. So then that means I'll need a new god damn intercooler.

My problem is not the lack of money. I can always work during school and make more. It's the time. My goal is to get to the track and make amazing passes. I do not have the time to accumulate that much for everything I need. Oh how I wished I had more time. Let's tally up the cost.

BEP 50 trim + oil feed and return ~ $800
ETS FMIC - ~$900
Aluminum rad with slim fans $250
AT cooler ~ $250

So I need to accumulate about $2200 to get everything done. That equates to about 8 more weeks of work. Looks like I'm not reaching that goal.

Bah, you don't need a big rad for drag racing. If the other one is bad, then ok. And what AT cooler is that much? Can't you use one of those universals and mount it in front of the rad? They are like $50 maybe and don't take long to install. I use one for my PS cooler.

No need to drain oil for turbo install. Just get that turbo and injectors on and go haul some ass. And I don't think I'd pick up that ets kit unless you got some serious cash on hand. Nothing wrong with the 2g ssac kit. I just cant justify spending almost as much on an intercooler kit as I did on my car.

What o2 housing you going with btw?

I was just giving a big leeway since I have not looked into AT coolers much but I did see one on extremepsi.com being sold for like $200. I figured if I have an FMIC, I would need to compensate for the lack of airflow with a better cooling unit.

I chose the ETS kit because it can allow me to keep the stock fogs. Plus I like the ease of the installation. One less thing to focus on. As for the O2 housing, I was thinking of Punishment Racing housings. I still haven't decided if I want to dump or not.

My honest opinion is dont get too crazy with the mods unless you have another car as a daily driver.. The more stuff you do to your car, the more chance you have of breaking things..

The next 4g63 I build will either be fully built or rebuilt to stock spec with ARP fasteners.. I don't trust the 4g63 in stock form anymore.. especially if the mileage gets up there

i do not like ets's products not trying to rag on them but by just looking
at their intercooler kits they do not flow well as dvt's would. 90 degree angles.......not good for flow my opinion

stages man stages...you dont have to post up serious numbers the first time out...in fact I am a firm believer in baslines just like alot of other people....say you get all that on and run x-time and someone says thats a good time man what did it run stock? you wont have an answer and have no way to gauge where all this money has gotten you

Run the t-25 first. Then you'll really appreciate the 50.

If it were me I'd get a baseline number to compare to, then get the turbo and intercooler. No need to replace the radiator or A/T cooler yet.

I would also NOT dump to atmosphere. I have a strictly road course track car, and dumped to atmosphere was way to ridiculously loud that I'm dumping it back into the exhaust.
