I am trying to figure out what 50 trim set up i should buy. I am kind of on a budget, but I will go the more expensive route if it produces more hp in the long run. What do you guys think?

PTE 50 trim w/ install kit $999.00
EVO III fully ported manifold $190.00
Punishment Racing SS O2 housing w/ ext. dump $150.00

total estimated at around $1370.00 w/ s&h

AGP 50 trim T3/T4 kit

everything included 1650 plus shipping

Which one of these set ups will yield the highest hp gains. I have seen the website for AGP and that is impressive, but it doesn't say what psi he is running to get those numbers, stock internals????

I am looking for enough to dust an local kid with a WRX STI, if both kits will be enough say so, if for the money the AGP is so much better, let me know i will go that route.

looking forward to hearing your answers, and your experiences with these turbo set ups.
Thanks in advance

For the price a PTE 50 is hard to beat. For the best performance a full Garrett setup. Like what AGP offers would be my choice. Either the PTE or AGP full Garrett setup will help you 'dust' your friend.

If the PTE has the center divider cut, then you will not want to run an external dump. It will leak exhaust all the time.

Keep your manifold and port it yourself and save $150 ($40 for some good carbide bits) and then consider the prices....

AGP kit is the shizzle, but some people are on strict budgets. Your 2g manifold (once ported) will be the same as an evo manifold once ported...no difference unless they are both stock and untouched. Good luck 'dusting' your STi rival...

To solve the boost creep problems people were seeing with the pte's, precision started to machine out the divider between the wg discharge and the turbine discharge. Since there is no divider between the o2 dump and the turbine dischsrge, it will sound and smeel like arse all the time.

Since you are saying 995 for the "kit" i guess you mean exptremepsi's kit, in whichg case you will most likely have the divider still (god knows I do and didn't want it that way). I say go with the pte and port your own manifold. A fully ported evo mani will run you 280 at sbr, not 190. Do your own work and save some pennies. Actuall, I think you should just port your o2 also instead of buying the dump one. If you can't port for yourself, just work out a core deal with rre. Now the price difference is almost enough to buy a set of used cams. Just my .02

Oh yes, mine is also divided. But I like internal. For soem reason I assumed you were referring to the manifold.

Sorry if I gave everyone the impression that this was going on my 2G. I do not have a 2G GST anymore. I sold it about 3 days ago on ebay. I purchased the blue GSX from Darkside and the set up will be going on that. I have to purchase a complete turbo set up. It has been removed from the car. I do my own porting, but I really am leaning towards the full garret set up from AGP.

it depends on what mods you already have, and how thorough you want to be... a PTE bolt on will work FINE but you can go all they way and getthe benefit of the full garret setup for not much more.

i will use the AMS kit for an example, since that is what i have and love it

-Garrett T3/T4 turbocharger
-Turbo Adaptor Plate
-SS Tubular o2 Housing
-Tial 38mm Wastegate
-SS 3" Downpipe
-Oil Feed and Return Lines
-All of the Gaskets and Bolts Required to Install

total cost - approx $1800

now look at the PTE bolt on option-

$900 approx for turbo
$250 Wastegate
$250-300 SS 3" downpipe
$250-300 SS Tubular O2 housing
$0-100 approx gaskets/lines/etc required for installs

total cost - approx $1700-1800

so as you can see, if you alread have a nice downpipe, o2 housing, etc, then the bolt on may be the better choice.. if you want/need to upgrade any of those parts, then the full garret kit is the better choice

yeah, i like all those manifolds. I don't have any upgrades right now. I sold my gst, bought a 1g GSX with a busted head gasket, no exhaust and no turbo set up. I am buying everything new with the money i made off my gs-t.

Today though, I purchased a PTE 50trim/.63a/r w/ 2g manifold and 38mm ext. wastegate kit from darkside racing.

I am also going to be getting 680cc injectors
full 3" turbo back
FMIC with GM MAF blow through set up
Southbend clutch
x-act fly
and all the other little stuff like gauges, boost controller, etc.

my goal is to run at least 20 psi on pump 93 octane.

Is this feasable?

Just got the AGP kit with a 50 trim.. cant wait till it arrives :X

if money isnt a problem go with the agp kit. If you are a cheap bastard like me, get the pte. I got an internally gated 50 trim, polished, with oil lines for 875. Add about 100 on to that for an intake(you'll need one with the agp kit too, or even make your own). Thats over $500 cheaper.

I guess it all depends what your goals are. Im still on stock internals, so I wont be able to realize the turbo's full potential anyways, so going the extra mile with the agp kit would have been a waste for me. However, it might be right for you. Good luck.

Engine bay look's like crap, and the paint they used on the manifold is all brunt away, but I'm pretty impressed by the whole overall qaulity of the kit. I hit full boost at 2700rpm, but i also have a n exhaust cut-out. I was surprized that i hit full boost at that low rpm. My advice would be to get the agp as a long term investment.

As you know already though that 50 trim doesn't wake up until your running at least 15psi give or take or depending on your mod's.

Swing lo, hows the sound on that external dump. My only concern would be the noise of the dump tube.

Yo it sound's dope as hell to me. It's like somebody's ripping through the air in my opinion. Does somebody want to clarify the sound of the dump fore him. It's not as loud as you think when it's not ran to an exit in the side of the bumper. As far as the loudness, it's straight for everyday due to the fact that it only really open's up when you get on it at the high rpm area.

Other than all that, the dump tube sound's dope as shit.

That makes sense. It would only open during WOT when theres too much exhaust gas pressure. I've been surfing alot and doing alot of searches and the AGP kit is the best deal in my opinion. Buying the parts yourself is just not worth it. Even not on sale, its a great deal.

I think gate placement has a lot to do with sound. My 40 mm exhaust housing mounded tial is very quiet. it sounds like a loud hissing sound. Not loud or annoying in the least.
