Quick question that i do not believe has been asnwered on here before. My car is burning oil. Its not noticable at all when driving, and there doesnt seem to be any power loss with the car but when i take out the number 2 cylinder plug and look down at the piston top, it is wet. I was told that it was most likely piston rings on that cylinder.. i feel kind of scepticle about that. anything else that can be causing this to happen? The compression t est wasnt the highest but still in good range when wet. (there is also residual oil leak from the exhuast mani)

A bad valve stem seal, or a bad guide can allow extra oil into the cylinder.

Next step would be a leak down test, that will let you know if the rings are shot or not.
 
And the valves were closed? On the compression stroke?

Where did you hear the air escaping?

What was the line pressure?

Are you sure you did the test correctly?
 
Yes i did it in the auto mechanics at a local college i attend. The instructor helped me get everything right the first time. I set it to 60psi and we couldnt find where the air was escaping. All of them tested moderate compared to one which was very bad. I am sending my block to a machine shop to get hot tanked and rebuilt just to be safe and not have to worry about it. :thumb:
