Weirdest 14b problem

Installed a 14b for my buddy today. Looked brand new. He changed from t-25. Anyways . Start it up and notice water leaking. Get under the and see water dripping off the return line. I figured i didnt tighten up the back water line. So i remove the drain line to acess the banjo. As im removing the return line bolts more water starts coming out. Wtf. Some how water is running out of the oil return line. Is it possoble that something went wrong inside that turbo to where cooling flows into the oil?? I have never seen this before. On a side note, the turbo was rotated upside down because the guy this turbo was purchased from was going to put it on a mr2. It was never installed on a mr2. Supposedly came off a dsm, rotated to fit his car and never installed. Any thoughts??

Coolant and water jackets are seperate. No way for them to mix. I honestly dont have an explanation for you.

you think the coolant dripped from the water pipe to the oil return line and it "looked" like water was dripping out? or you physically saw water pour out of the oil line? any pics?

I hope you didn't run water into the oil inlet of the turbo, and oil into the water inlet.

no no, it didnt look like it, it WAS water coming out the return line i first took one of the 10mm bolts and it started leaking, then took other bolt off and leaked alot more, took return line off and water started pouring out..

and no i didnt run the water line into oil inlet or vise versa. i did all that right. double checked, tripled checked

by rotated, i mean by that flange were j-pipe bolts to turbo was facing down as oppose to facing up like normal. i guess the guy that my buddy bought the turbo from got it from a dsm but he rotated it so it can fit on his set up which was going onto his MR2. we rotated it back by taking out the big circlip that holds the hotside to coldside

id love to help.. do you have any pictures?

maybe if you take the turbo off and the lines off of the turbo and you pour oil into the hole and see if it comes out anywhere else, same thing for the coolant sides?

i got no pictures
but tomorrow ill take turbo off and put water into water lines and see why/how it goes onto return line flange

ill keep you guys updated. i cant even sleep because im still shocked/confused on this problem. ive never heard of anything like this. only thing i can think of, is if its cracked inside and water is leaking out cranks and into the oil port.. idk im tripping

The housing can physically crack inside, especially if water was ever allowed to freeze in the cartridge. Shouldn't be an issue for California guys- but it's definitely possible.

ya i think thats what wrong justin. i took turbo off and ran water through water line and sure enough water came out oil port/ oil return flange,especially through were the 10mm bolts screw into. hopefully this water didn't ruin anything internally. it was only one for about 1min before we noticed this problem.
