I'm running speed density so I removed the UICP from the turbo to see how it sounded. With the pipe removed, when the BOV blows off, the turbo like does this weird screech. sounds like a high pitch whistle. It only does it when blowing off. I have a greddy type RS and was thinking it wasn't fully opening so I removed one of the springs and it seems to open better but I still get that whistle.

I can't hear the whistle/screech at all with the UICP on the car. Am I getting compressor surge or is this normal sound? I understand a lot of people run factory MAF's so I prob won't get a lot of responses. I know surge is more of a flutter and considering the BOV opens, I doubt it's that.

When u measure shaft play, is it done with pliers or ## fingers? I get minimal shaft play in and out and none up and down but when i use pliers i get minimal up and down. Just weird how I don't hear it when the UICP is on. Wonder if anyone else with speed density has tried running without the uicp.

If its minimal then it shouldn't be too much of a problem, Type in "t28 shaft play" on youtube for a video i put on for an example of A LOT of shaft play. Perhaps your b.o.v. is leaking? My old type s made similar sounds to what your describing, but only a boost leak test can show

Mine doesn't whistle like that, its more of a squeel. It almost sounds as if I put a small opening on the end of the blow off valve. I don't know if its the BOV itself ### I can't hear the noise when I run the car with the upper intercooler pipe on it. I'll try and get a vid of it today while driving.

Also wanna add that I did a few BLT's and found some at the vacuum plugs i put on the throttle body, on a hose that wasn't that tight, the PCV valve hose, and the throttle shaft seal behind the TPS. I had already replaced the seal with a used one out of a different throttle body that looked fine but apparently isn't perfect. The different seal is not leaking near as bad as the other one at 20psi so with speed density I don't have a problem with it. This was all done before the noise even....The noise happened on the turbo that was on it a week ago also.

You might have a leak somewhere on the turbo itself, or on the manifold. I had this problem before, and I couldn't figure it out for days. Took the heatshield off and there it was plain as day.

Maybe I am missing something here...but with your upper intercooler pipe off of the car, how would your bov even have any pressure left in the pipe to make it go off?? All the boost your turbo creates would blow out the lower pipe and all your air would be sucked in through whatever pipe you have left on the car not getting any boost at all which still confuses me because almost every uic pipe I've seen has the bov attached to it...

Maybe I'm wrong but I assumed the UICP was the pre-turbo intake that houses the factory MAS sensor.

You're right. So apparently I meant pre turbo intake pipe.

bov on UICP in stock location, and bov on UICP on front mount short route

Ah, you are refering to the air intake pipe. LICP goes from turbo to the intercooler (actually to an elbow to the intercooler), UICP goes from exit of intercooler (also an elbow that exits the interooler) to throttle body elbow.

But now thats clarified, you could be hearing a sound of air quickly chirping through the fins of your turbo that is usually muffled when you have the intake on and cannot usually hear it. I run SD as well and with the intake off I get a loud chirp that i dont hear when the intake is on.

Ok good. Thanks for the clarification. It usually won't do it unless I get to over 8 pounds of boost so I'm glad it's normal. I was also wondering, does anyone know what size barb fitting goes on the drivers side of the intake on a 6 bolt motor?

Mine was welded shut from the previous owner and I know running my boost guage, MAP sensor, AFPR, BOV, and wastegate off the same nipple has got to have some kind of effect. Like my auto meter boost gauge reading 21 lbs of boost while my MAP reads 18.5.

Order a MDP adapter from RRE or dsm graveyard, this will use stock mdp location for your map sensor, just be sure to reuse the stock mdp o-ring. I have my bov hooked alone to stock location, and my boost gauge is t'd into the fps line off the intake manifold. For your wastegate, run a hose to your compressor cover or else your lower intercooler pipe, if you don't have a barb fitting on either, drill a hole and install the barb fitting on your LICP as it is probably easiest, I believe average size used is 3/8

I can't order an MDP adapter since I'm running a 6 bolt. The barb is still in the intake manifold, the end is just welded shut for some weird reason. All I need to do is replace that barb. I thought about just installing a barb to the J pipe for the boost controller.

My bad, didnt see you were 6bolt, a barb fitting on jpipe is a good idea to run to your mbc and from there to your wastegate . If you can get the welded barb fitting out do it and put a new one in there too.
