Last night I went to start my car and when I started it the starter stayed trying to spin while the engine was on.. weird.. turned off the engine right away... So I turned off the car and pulled out the key.. the starter kept cranking on the engine! Only way to make it stop it was to pull the battery cable off. It happened a few more times since then. What the hell is going on. I don't understand how the starter can keep getting power after the key has been turned off and removed from the car.

Ok.. but I just want to understand the logic behind it at least.. how is the starter still getting power when the key is off and taken out of the ignition.

I was thinking that too.. does that sound like it could be the problem? That makes more sense to me than anything.. like the relay is geting stuck or something.

I've been having issues with the solenoid on the starter for a while anyway so I'm just gonna have it changed (really don't feel like dealing with it) and if the relay was bad my tuner will change that to... I'll update when the job is complete..

The starter has power to it all the time through the cable direct to the battery. The signal from the ignition key (through the relay) activates a large solenoid switch. If the switch sticks in the on position, your starter runs continuously.

Turned out to be the starter.. I still have a weird issue though that'd I've had since the summer when I had my clutch replaced. Ever since the clutch was replaced when I start the car and the engine ignites.. you have to let go of the key quick or it makes this screeching noise. Thought it was teh solenoid on the old starter, but it still does it with the new starter.. What could this be?

Anyone have idea's on this? I can not figure it out.. I get a screeching when I start my car.. I've been having it for a long time, very confused because replacing the starter did not help..
