Weird starting problem

Alright, I'm stuck in my college parking lot. My car won't start. I can hear a humming noise when I turn the key, my dash lights go on, but the car isn't trying to turn over. But the weird thing is my tach needle is bouncing all over the place. It spikes to 4k, and bounces. Not sure what to think. Let me know what you guys think

The car won't turn over at all?

Have you tried getting a jump from someone? Sounds like a dead battery.

If not, a bad starter or starter relay.

Well, she's off to the Mitsubishi dealer; just got er towed. We jump started the car, and no matter what we did the car wouldn't stay on. The battery is a week old, and the alternator is maybe two months old. I guess I'll see what they say.

The tach needle is very strange.

It sounds like there isn't a good connection between the car and the battery. A battery cable (probably negative) may need to be replaced.

sounds like either a fusable link that allows the alternator to sense the state of the battery (if it blows this fuse the alternator will never turn on to recharge the battery) or your new alternator just caved and ran your battery down to nill.......Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a new part die right out of the box......

Everything you guys have mentioned was brought up by either my dad, or the mechanic at the dealer. Here's a video of the tach while trying to start the car.

Forgot to mention that every time I turned the key, there was a tick noise that came from around the fuse box. It only ticked once per turn of the key.

Is the power transistor plugged in snug?

$800, and a new alternator and power steering pump, and my car is back to running normal again.
