weird sound... fuel pump?

So I of course know of the fuel pump prime. But when I am pushing my car (above 5000rpm) I get a whistling sound. If I let off the gas, the sound stops, but as soon as i press it again, the whistle is right there, the more i push it the louder it gets. It almost reminds me an airplane taking off, which while it is kind of cool, I'm worried something is wrong, or going out.

I noticed this a while ago, but didn't really notice it until in 5th gear. It was much quieter and it only happened around 2500-3k rpm. Was weird cause if i had the car cruising in that rpm range I'd hear, it, but as soon as i accelerated it seemed to go away. This of course could have been to the exhaust drowning it out. Soo... any ideas? I've yet to have any problems beyond the noise and only thing i could think of is possibly my fuel pump is getting old and noisy.

I got a loud whistle because air was passing through the cover where the fuel pump is, but its probably different.

I'd imagine its different, but I'll still check it, after all will only take a few seconds to check, so thanks for a place to start

Sounds like your pump is going out on you man. You're still NT so you don't have a Walbro yet right?

I actually do have a walbro 255... just not in the car I've been told to look for vacuum leaks as well. So going to do that today and hopefully find one, if not gonna replace the fuel pump and see if that changes things.

I don't know why the fuel pump would get louder as the engine spins faster. The voltage to the pump should be the same (unless the alternator or voltage regulator is failing) and the pressure in the fuel system should be relatively consistent (unless you have a leak or a rising rate fuel pressure regulator).

I'd definitely check for vacuum leaks first.

i updated on 2gnt but forgot to update here, found one of my vacuum caps severely deteriorated. Gonna replace it and drive around tonight, see if that fixed the problem
