This noise just started happening when I was driving and at about 5000rpm my engine just started making this noise. Now it happens at any rpm above 2500rpm. So I was suspecting the timing cover but I took the timing cover off and ran the car with only the water pump/alternator belt on and it still made the noise. I see no signs of rubbing and it sounds like it's internal but I'm not 100%. Anyone have any clue what this could be? Any help would be appreciated.

I drained my oil, I didn't see any metal pieces in the oil. Is it possible that there could be no metal in the oil but still in the oil pan?

from the videos it definitely sounds like the balance shafts , i bought my tsi with 100k and it made that same noise for almost a year till one day at 104k .... just a low rpm take off from a red light my timing belt just snapped out of no where and bent all my valves up, ended up doing a complete rebuild . delete the ####ers and youll be good i think.

The rubber on the crankshaft pulley could be dried out and just need to be replaced, easy to check. Think positive!

I just pulled the transfer case but the shaft that goes into the transfer case pulled out of the automatic transmission some and most of my transmission fluid leaked out, when I pushed the shaft back in the transmission stopped leaking fluid. Now my question is, is this okay as long as I just fill it with new fluid?

Yup, turned out it was the balance shaft bearing, the balance shaft made the hole a lot bigger than the bearing in the block. Here's a pic of the bearing that was in the bottom of my oil pan, and a couple of the shavings in the pan.

Now that I have the oil pan off what else can I inspect for wear, what are some things to look for? Whats the best balance shaft removal kit I can get?

This sounds like a balance shaft problem, and in my opinion just buy a balance shaft removal kit if it turns out that it is. You might feel not even feel a difference.

Now I need to install a balance shaft eliminator kit with the engine installed in my car. Does anyone have any tips for doing this? It looks like I'll have to remove my a/c pump and CV shaft.

Also now that the balance shaft made the bearing hole bigger I think a replacement bearing wont fit. Is this okay to leave it out? I should also add that the shaft that connects to the oil pump is the one that threw the bearing.

I just realized that the oil pump balance shaft doesn't have an oiling hole because it's fed from the oil pump through the hollow balance shaft to lube, so I should be okay leaving that bearing out. Now that I'm going to be taking the front cover off I know I will be needing some gaskets and seals. I want to replace any thing possible while I'm underthere any ideals?

I have almost the exact same noise happening to my car now, it is a crate motor with a BS delete from the factory though so I don't think it would be a BS bearing for me. I am pulling the timing cover off tonight to see if something is rubbing underneath, possibly a tbelt pulley making noise. Tbelt was replaced about 3k ago though.
