montreal,
My car is 95 AWD Talon manual
When turning slowly, I sometimes hear big "clak" followed by a skip of the rear wheels.
I did a couple of tests with the wheels:

-With the front in the air and in 1st gear, the front wheels turn opposite.
-With the rear in the air and in 1st gear, the rear wheels turn opposite.
-With the right side in the air and in neutral, the rear wheel will turn, turning the driving shaft too BUT TURNING SOMETIMES THE FRONT WHEEL THE SAME DIRECTION (like grabing sometimes).
-Same test but in 1st gear, the front wheel will turn opposite direction but sometimes both wheels will jam and I am not longer able to turn them.

Do you have idea of what it is: Center Differential or Transfer Case?
Let me know if you need me do other test.
And by the way, if you have idea of what it is, let me know the fater you can because it is the only day I have time to work on my car for a while.

Thanks

Its not too late to help me if you know or have an idea of what is the problem.

The car is still in the driveway waiting for repair.

Sounds like my car did when i had a bad Viscus Coupler.....That would suck.........
Does it spin/slip tires when u back up or corner when u cut the wheels hard?
if so thats ## problem. :barf:

Sounds like a broken center diff to me. Try this:

Be at a complete stop and turn the wheel all the way in either direction and move the car a little in first gear. If the car rolls like normal and gradually comes to a stop the center diff is ok. If it's broken you will feel major resistance, almost like the brakes are on and the car will stop faster than normal.

Sorry for the delay but I was in exams.
So the car is in a garage for the hole week and I'm working on it.
I didn't tried what RoasT BeeF asked but I pulled the thanfert case out. With the rear of the car on the ground, and the two front wheels in the air, I hold the shaft that goes to the transfert case and one front wheel. My friend turned the other wheel in neutral and the wheel would turn and suddenly stoped. Turnedd it the other way and after a couple of turn it jammed. Weird!? WTF
So I'm now sure it is not the Tranfert Case.
My tranny is going out tomorrow, I'll open it and see if I'm able to repair it.

It is hard to explain the what the tranny does in writing. When I turn the wheel, sometimes it blocks, sometimes not. When it does, it is never after the same number of turn (sometimes quickly, sometimes it takes a couple of turn). Once the wheel is block, if I jiggle the wheel a bit, back and forth, it sometimes gets free and continue to turn.

Maybe it is normal but in any case, I find it weird.

The tranny is out because I'm not sure what is broken in it and it is going to be easier to inspect it on a table then under the car. And if I'm not able to repair it, the tranny will be transported to a tranny mechanic.
