Weird knocking sound

at idle i hear a ticking or knocking noise but i cant pinpoint the location of the noise does anybody know what it could be...

After you shut your car off, a ticking noise is actually pretty common among DSM's.

But during idle? Have you checked the oil recently? Could be that its low...

Most likely it's the infamous "lifter tick". Some cars have it worse than others, a common method to fix it is to put in some oil treatment, i.e. Restore engine oil treatment will help or you could just replace your lifters with 3g lifters. You can do a search on it and you will find other threads about it.

For us to really help at all gonna need some more info. Does it change with motor speed? does it go away? When did it start? What area of the motor does it come from. The more info you can provide the more help we can be.
